The problem in our country and with it's worsening economy is that this liberal; Bleeding-heart group of politicians continue to allow illegal aliens to live and work here, and in turn these individuals not only take jobs from Americans [causing the unemployed and underemployed to depend on the government for assistance to live], the illegal's are entitled to free medical care [something Americans pay for with ever increasing fees/co pays and pays and inflated premiums], food stamps [our taxes pay this] and their children attend our schools [making the cost to run schools more than it would be without all the illegal's and their special needs, such as language requirements].

The solution to this problem is more difficult than raising taxes, or cutting programs. The hard pill to swallow is that ALL illegal aliens need to be deported, no matter what the case, and made to go to the beginning of the line, and start the process like everyone of our family members did centuries ago.

If it was good enough for my great grandparents [to follow the law and assimilate], it won't hurt the illegal's that are here now, over taxing the system supported by the taxes of hard-working Americans, like you and I!

    * Please do not view or think of me as a racist. Contrary to what the above me appear to be, I am very much into social issues having volunteered [more than twenty years now] with local school districts teaching English to aliens and assisting them with getting the help they need to survive in this country.

I am only making the above statement out of what I've seen, and what I believe has to be done to reign in the run-away economy before we all sink like Greece and other Eurporeon nations now experiencing bankruptcy and financial ruin.

Paul, yo said nothing about being racist. You simply are against illegal aliens, I assume you means whether they be from England, France, Japan, Antarctic or the moon.

My big problem with illegal aliens is with the give-a-way programs and using other government programs - including but not limited to public schools. (if a private school wanted to enroll a IA - w/o govt funds - let them). I hold to the belief that if the beenies are stop, then so will illegal aliens.

Fixing America is DEFINITELY a spiritual issue that will not be won. The level of unGodliness continues to rise. And those who follow the rule of the law are outnumbered by those who abide by situational ethics as opposed to the absolute truth of God.

Christians definitely added to this problem during the last election. But I think it's evident that there is a majority in this country who do not care about what God says, but who will do what is right in their own eyes no matter what the issue.

The ship is sinking and the only thing left to do is snatch those off who want to be rescued.

It took blood in the 1776, and blood again in 1860.

If we would have had a candidate that told us the truth I would have voted for him, and even openly campaigned for him. The truth the country needs to hear will not be said. It is too painful for our narcissistic and entitlement loving nation.

    1. Sacrifice together and be committed to fiscal responsibility.
We need to be willing to sacrifice as a nation. We need to cut all welfare for individuals for everyone except those who are in most need. The Bible lays out guidelines for the helping of widows, we need that kind of system. We need to cut all corporate welfare. We need to cancel all funding for research. Cancel all governemnt funding given to other organizations (pbs, planned parenthood, et al). Private organizations always do better anyways. We need to scrap the tax code and IRS and institute a 15% flat tax...no deductions, no exceptions. Do not touch defense spending. Cancel all foreign aid. Encourage recycling and victory gardens akin to those of WWII. Go after our own natural resources. And otherwise get the government out of the way of industry. No new spending. Pass a balanced budget amendment.

    Revolution

Wrong. Illegal aliens live and work here because employers continue to employ them and pay them cheap wages. Stop hiring illegals and they won't come here. Ask yourself--which political party claims the most business owners?

Furthermore, if you deport all illegal aliens get ready for prices on food to skyrocket, because harvesting and processing food items is where most illegals find jobs.

When you say fix America, my mind goes back to the Bush and Obama bailouts. If we were going to spend trillions anyhow, why on earth did we not use that money to pay all those unemployed to fix the electrical grids, sewage plants, communications lines, highways, rail systems, bridges, and water plants. Some of the systems in the Northeast are over a century old. Where did all of that money go? It would have provided good jobs and fixed a badly deteriorating infrastructure. Most of the money is probably in the pockets of politicians.

By the way, I wanted to thank you for handing over 55 electoral votes to Obama. LOL

I have a friend in New Jersey and he was saying they should have used the stimulus money for a gigantic project to take all power lines and put them underground. Far, far fewer people would have lost power in hurricane Sandy (and in subsequent storms/hurricanes.)

All aliens here are not illegal. There are programs that allow migrant workers to come legally to work the harvest fields.

I hear you and know where your coming from on these issues.Illegals are only part of the problem. The root of it is greed. Not just the Greed of big bussiness but greed of the consumer as well. We all buy what we can most afford and in that is the products from other countries which were much cheaper. That is untill the american companies folded and now all you can buy is from other countries and we are now paying more for foreign products than we did for Made in America. This was the worlds plan all along. Wipe us out from the inside.

Just saw a news blurp about a $7M mansion here in town that has been paying a whopping $24/year property tax. Yup, greed is definitely amongst the more dastardly of spirits ...

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

I have often thought this would be one of the better uses of the stimulus moneys.

We can't fix it. Our problems are deeper and larger than illegal aliens.

Our Nation is on a runaway train as this past election proved. Four more years of this crowd and this nation will be ashes. Sorry to sound so negative, but I really believe we have just gone over the tipping point on Tuesday night.

And, if God is judging America for all of our nation's sins, then there IS no fixing, is there?

I don't even know how to pray for this nation anymore because the people's hearts are hardened. The majority voted for more killing of the unborn, free birth control pills to live sexually immoral lives and free abortions if the pills don't work, more handouts at the expense of others, financial irresponsibility, fiscal debt, higher taxes, government intrusion into our personal lives, our healthcare, and our religious institutions, more unfair trade agreements, more billions wasted on "green" energy, more billions and trillions borrowed, more billions and trillions thrown at countries who hate us and want to kill us, and homosexual marriage, more corruption in our government, more taking from working people to give to those who refuse to work, and every unthinkable thing under the sun, including what is coming down the pike - euthanasia for the old and infirm (under obamacare's 15 appointed unelected bureaucrats to decide who is worthy of healthcare and who is not using a cost-to-benefit ratio guideline).

Why should God Almighty grant us any more mercy as a nation?

I really do believe God has given us warning signs and opportunities to change our collective paths, but America would rather (according to the electorate results) live as hedonists and voted for al of the above.

What can Christians do? We can continue to be salt and light to those people around us or we come into contact with. We can continue to give to the needy. We can continue striving to draw closer to the Lord. We can pray for a national revivial.

Perhaps old Noah tried that. Remember how many years he preached? And how many people ended up in the ark with him outside of his family?

It is a wonderful time because we have the Lord. But it is a fearful time for our Nation. How long will God with hold His Hand of Judgment from us and from the world?

Read Revelation 18. See if anything there rings true concerning America.

No, Friend, I think we have reached the tipping point for our nation. I pray not, but it doesn't look promising. As Christians, we may have difficult days ahead. But we must keep looking up.

Our fate as a nation is entirely out of our hands.

LOL - My Wife and I and Our County....

....elected Romeny as president by a 53 to 46% number. This is why I HATE the Electoral College System. It does not take into consideration the real will of ALL Americans. Just think about this. In this election year, the candidates skipped over at least 41 of the 50 states in their campaigning. In fact, here in our county, I do not remember seeing one Obama or Romney ad. How sad! :tear:

It just so happens the remainder of the state of fruits, nuts and flakes had a different view. I think Hollywood and Frisco are leading the parade for Obama and everyone else is drinking their free koolaide. :tear:

An interesting discussion yall have here and some good points have bee made.

I believe there is always hope for a people who will repent and turn back to God, no matter how dire the circumstances may be. That being said, the people of America have chosen the path they are on. What comes next is of their own volition, not so much God's wrath, though that may come as well.

Aaron brings up a good point. The tree of liberty has not been watered here at home in many a decade. That it is withering is no surprise. The question is, "Will anyone be willing to make the sacrifice?"

On another point, I may have a solution for our low-cost labor issue. I've been working with a development group on intelligent machines, which basically equates to 'androids' that learn and think like human beings. If the development were complete already I think I could build one for about $10k including a decent humanoid body. The expensive part is the brain due to the fact that most of the circuit boards have to be custom printed. Within the next ten years these machines should be a fairly normal part of our reality, assuming that the Lord gives our mentor the time to finish teaching us what we need to know to make this happen. Imagine being able to replace your basic labor force with relatively inexpensive machines that don't sleep (much), eat, take vacations or go on strike.

IMO, most of the solution to this is fairly simple. Able bodied men and women receiving public assistance will be required to work for that assistance.

When I was a child on our farm (1950's), my father would put out the word into the community that he needed workers for the harvests. People needing to put food on their tables, would arrive at the appointed time. He didn't have pick them up. Women would bring their children with them, as the excuse of lack of daycare wasn't heard of back then. It was expected/accepted that small children would play (and behave themselves) near the harvest area.

In the 1960's that gradually changed. To sum it up, people refused to assist with the harvest - "I can't work because they might cut off my check." Re-stated: I won't work as long as I can get paid for sitting on my behind and doing nothing.

    Proverbs 20: KJB
4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

    Proverbs 21: KJB
25 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.

Lady Eagle is right in all she said.

Perhaps the only thing left to pray: Thy will be done.

Technology is part of the problem that we face today.

Every time a factory automated their processes, people lost jobs. Between exporting manufacturing to other countries and automation, the losers were what we call "blue collar" workers today.

I'm not opposed to technology advances, as a whole. That's not my point. In the example listed, is any consideration given to those who will no longer be allowed to do those jobs? Generally, no. With everyone of these, more and more average John Doe was cast aside with unemployment benefits for a few months.

This ties in to my previous reply. Harvesting crops and processing food aren't the only jobs that illegals have taken from "Blue Collar" workers. Because a family member worked in a warehousing operation, I watched the transition of this industry. First, many jobs, such as a fork lift operator transitioned to people with questionable citizenship. At the same time this industry increased automation of operations. Jobs, regardless of who held them, disappeared.

What should happen to all the people who can't find work, of any kind, if the technology that you mentioned comes about?

We already have robot nurses as printed circuit boards are gaining in that service industry. We already have self-serve store check-out replacing cashiers. We already have fully automated warehousing operations, as previously mentioned. The auto manufacturing assembly lines are close to being fully automated. The list can go on. What happens to the people who don't have multiple degrees from Harvard when their job(s) are replaced by machines?

    Ditto That!

Zaac...I know that there are those on the BB that accuse you of being a troll but I personally think you are dead-center ON TARGET with this statement. We need, as Christians, to get our focus off of the cares of THIS WORLD and set our priorities on the one to come and the task of winning as many as possible to salvation in Christ in the time we have remaining. May we be repentant and humble before God and reliant upon His help to carry out His will and work.

    @Oldtimer:

I've been giving that question some thought for a while now and the conclusion is that technology isn't the problem, it's how people look at life that is the problem. The issue ties directly into America's current situation and the solution. Let me explain:

We humans naturally look to someone to provide for us what we cannot provide for ourselves. A military and law enforcement agencies provide a measure of security for us. Industries provide services and goods that would be time consuming, even nigh impossible, for us to produce ourselves. Our natural state of need should drive us to look to God, instead though, we look to anyone and everyone else - government, employers, you name it. We become reliant on those people instead of God. Subsequently when a change comes along that upsets our way of life, like say, a nation wide economic collapse, or a new technology that eliminates our position, we don't know how to cope. The root of this problem is that we do not rely on God, we rely on men and human institutions instead.

I know that seems to be a cold answer but to put it in perspective - my only degree is in pastoral theology and I don't make a living off of it. I simply go and do what and where the Lord leads and trust that God will keep his promise to provide for my food, raiment and any other needs. He hasn't failed me yet. If we Americans would look to God instead of men, economic collapse, who's in power at the moment, and other changes wouldn't mean the end of the world as we know it.

As for those intelligent machines - it will probably take a while before they filter down to most blue collar jobs. Their first employment will probably be in high-risk jobs. I would really like to see disciples of Christ take up this new development and put it to a good use. I know that the wicked will happily find some evil application for it.
