They have realized that politically their out of touch ideological egg has been broken by the hard rock of political reality.

Please note the word political. Political ideology and moral ideology are not synonyms.

I KNOW that this may come as quite a shock to some of my BB friends out there, but this makes the SECOND time within less than a week that yours truly has to agree with my "lefty :wavey: BB buddy, Bro. CTB"!!

If memory serves me correctly, it's been at least 36 years (maybe more, but who's counting??!!??) that the GOP's platform had as one of its planks something like: "Vote GOP, 'cause WE'RE gonna DO something to ultimately ABOLISH abortion, fer sure!!"

Thirty-six years, and five GOP presidents (two of which were RE-ELECTED!) later, during which at least SIX times the sitting GOP POTUS had the opportunity to appoint justices (twice the CHIEF JUSTICE!) to the SCOTUS, during which some 8 million x 36 lives murdered, AND THE GOP STILL HASN'T MANAGED TO ABOLISH ABORTION!

And yet the GOP STILL claims to be THE right-to-life party!!!

    Yeah....right!!! :tear:

Keep telling yourself that. The reality is that one's morals dictates his politics. It isn't only those who perform the evil that are worthy of judgment, but also those who approve of them.

And let him/her who is without sin cast the first stone.

If a political party wants to win national elections and they pursue a political agenda that is driven by a moral agenda that is out of touch with the majority of the voters, that party will loose. The perception of the majority of the voters in the US is that overall the moral agenda of the GOP is not a good agenda for the living ... those already born.

I am not saying this is a good thing. I am simply saying it is reality.

Are you now saying the moral agenda of the GOP is a good thing?

They are. There have been a lot of small in roads made with regard to abortion. To suggest otherwise is to lack facts.

This is not a question with a simple yes or no answer. It is too complex an issue for such a simple sentence.

But to keep it simple lets look at it in its entirety and I would have to say that the negative aspects of the GOP agenda outweighs the positive. Apparently the majority of the voters agree on this belief. The results of the election indicate this strongly.

The GOP has made a strong stance on protecting life before birth. However, they have not made a strong case for protecting life after birth. Indeed, they have come across as being against helping those who are alive and in need. Now whether you agree with this is not the point. The point is the majority of American voters believe this ... and in elections the majority wins.

I believe the GOP modify a number of stances to change people's perception and those changes will make many of their far-right fringe folk very angry.

Your premise is incorrect! The politics of the leftist ideology has always been immoral. I hope the Conservatives ideology never loses its sense of morality!

OR, this is very short sighted. Conservative theology/morals and conservative politics have never held the same definition. It's a myth used by the right to gain votes. It's been used for so long now, most can't even see where the myth stops and reality begins. That is why Obama won a second term and the GOP had to fight to retain its status in Congress.

There are aspects of the Conservative ideology that a majority of Americans find immoral. The election showed that.

You mean after all those posts of me saying that what someone believes matters in making policy decisions, you're NOW gonna jump on board?

    Better late than never.

Barack Obama admitted as much and the same would have been true had Romney been elected. His version of truth would have been all over everything that he did.

Not necessarily something to crow about.

You are being unnecessarily cynical. The pro-life plank is in the platform because it belongs there. It is never wrong to take the moral path! May not be politically expedient but never wrong!

You seem to lack understanding of the way the Federal Government works, also the unpredictable behavior of Justices. Three of the Justices appointed by Reagan and Bush 1, O'Conner, Kennedy, and Souter were not as expected. Souter was a closet leftist and demonstrated this during his tenure on the court and the delay of his retirement untill Obamma was elected. Kennedy and O'Conner were ambivalent as far as ideology but I believe both turned out to support Roe V Wade.

The only pro-life legislation enacted since Roe V Wade was when the House, Senate, and presidency were controlled by Republicans, these are the ban on Partial Birth Abortions and the law requiring medical care for babies alive after being aborted. Obamma voted against such a law 3 times while in the Illinois Senate! I would also note that for the fist 18 of those 38 years the House was under democrat control making passage of pro-life legislation impossible. When Republicans took control of Congress in 1994 they twice passed the ban on Partial Birth Abortions, twice vetoed by Clinton. This practice was finally outlawed after Bush was elected.

Be careful who you agree with unless you know all the facts!

So, you're disqualifying the GOP on moral grounds?

BULL! It is very likely that the democrats stole the election! The only thing the election demonstrated is the immorality of a majority of those voting. Note the following Crabby. I am copying it from another Thread but it describes the Obamma voter perfectly!

You point is? Should Conservative ideology adopt the immorality of the left?

No, it should jettison its immoral ideas it holds dearly about people in need and in minority groups.

You know Nixon with his Southern strategy set the GOP on the immoral course it has swallowed hook, line and sinker.

Here you have one of the biggest lies liberals tell. That conservatives do not care for people once they are born. That because we see a problem with 7 or 8 generations of the same families on welfare, they HAVE to twist it into we want people to die. It's highly offensive, and needs to be fought.

The republicans are just not up to that job.
