Suppose several States or Commonwealths did actually secede. What would happen?

    1) Revive the Constitution of the CSA
with some changes - say for example - a pro-life amendment, definition of marriage, English only policy
    2) Allow residents of non-seceding States or Commonwealths - say one year to move to the new country, to become full fledge citizens
    3) Allow and encourage the Confederados of Brazil to return.
    4) who would be the leaders of the movement?
    5) would border controls be required
    6) Would the new country temporary maintain US laws, until all is set in place - What laws would be recinded?
    7) What federal agcys would be retained - ie Post Office- would they become the Post office of the new country? would the employees retain tenure for retirement, ect?

    What else should be considered

If they secede, they aren't getting time to do squat. Immediately cut off all aid, interstate commerce, block the borders, cut the power grid, etc,. Treat em like Cuba.

Texas has its own power grid. As far as interstate commerce, we have the second largest port in the country, smack dab in major shipping lanes.

As far as "aid," Texas only gets back 80 cents for every dollar we send the Feds...so we would be in great shape there, too. Seeing as how we already refuse a bunch of the Feds money, I don't see how we would be hurt. We would actually be in GREAT shape, with our Natural Gas deposits and other natural resources (which the Feds are keeping us from tapping...like the coal plant that has been trying to open in my county...and keeps getting blocked by the Feds...)

So, bring that on. The Republic of Texas would be in GREAT shape..

Ignoring the legal debate to answer the question, I would say 45 or so of the states would collapse into anarchy within a short period of time. My state thrives on tobacco and other crops, hardly a formula for self reliance. Where would Kentucky get its gasoline, oil, and food supplies? What monetary system would we use? How would Kentucky collect enough taxes to sustain an independent state? Tennessee, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, and Viriginia would not be obligated to trade with or allow supplies to pass from the coast to our state. A minor point, but machines like cars do break down. Where would the parts come from? How would one travel from state to state?

I suppose that the most likely state for being able to sustain itself would be Texas. They are on a coast, have a vibrant economy, their own source of energy, etc. New York would also probably survive, along with California. Beyond that, it becomes very doubtful. Any inland state is depending on other states to allow the passage of supplies. For example, if Kansas left the union and the rest did not, the US would not allow trade with or passage to Kansas. Even if the other states also left, there is no guarantee that they would allow passage. How would each state sustain its monetary system and tax base?

I would say Florida would do fine, but it is a giant nursing home. It does have plenty of access to the coast. I don't know beyond that. What states do you think would survive?

Texas would do okay if they would control their borders, but they have a big illegal alien problem and drugs smuggled in.

Kentucky, Tennessee, WV, could band together because we have plenty of coal which produces electricity. We also have the Mississippi River bordering us for trade.

Don't forget, SN, you have Fort Knox (not that there is REALLY any gold there).

Yeah I mentioned Texas' power grid in another thread. They are the only ones who really have the infrastructure to do something like try to secede.

Well, my friend it is never going to happen.

But let's say they try .... they won't ... but for the sake of discussion let's say they try.

    What could a president do:

    1. Immediately secure all US bases and critical federal facilities.
    2. Blockader all seaports. No ships in no ships out.
    3. Close all the airports. No planes in, no planes out.
    4. No trucks allowed to enter Texas.
    5. No trucks allowed out of Texas.
    6. Block all communications out of Texas.
    7. No food allowed to go into Texas.
    8. No oil or gasoline allowed out of Texas.
    9. No refined petroleum products allowed from other states into Texas
    10. Amnesty for all who help oppose the rebellion within Texas.
    11. Jam all TV and radio inside Texas.
    12. No drugs or medical equipment allowed to enter Texas.
    13. No money transfers allowed to or from banks inside Texas.
    14. Immediate closure of all banks in Texas.
    15. Jamming of all aircraft frequencies in Texas.
    16. No trains allowed to leave or enter Texas.

I am sure there are other things that could be done. But that is for starters and all done without firing a shot.

Those that secede will take most of the infra-structure that drives the economy with them!:laugh:

It is quite clear that Crabby views Obama as the Imperial president, otherwise a dictator. That is what many on the left long for. They have one.

I don't believe any state will secede but if they do t will be en masse, not a lone star state. I would expect that the red counties would join the succession and build electrified fences around the blue enclaves!

Cheer up S/N. Kentucky has coal. They have access to the world by way of the Mississippi River. And they have good old Mitch until Ashley kicks him out!

Look at counties not states. About the only contiguous blue area is the northeast coast, parts of Calif. and the northwest. The other blue areas are surrounded by red

I agree--Texas wouldn't have to go it alone.

    That would be something

If the Confederacy was permitted to leave would you'll expect to collect your SS and government pension checks?

Well, lets see - there are Americians overseas who are collecting retirment from the US.

so NO, I dont see that as a problem.

What I see as a problem is the give-a-way programs (of which SS and reasonable retirement are NOT)

You earned it, you deserve it.

If Texas secedes, we can invade and effect regime change...dump Rick Perry from office and hand him over to angry mobs.
