This is not a criticism, but I do not believe women live as the Bible commands .... nor do men. Read on:

Actually, she did not live like a Biblical woman herself.

Nowhere in the Bible are women commanded to call their husbands masters. The Bible does say that Sarah called Abraham master, but she was not commanded to nor is the command given to any other woman.

Women are not bound the Levitical Law requirements for behaviors during their menstral cycles. No woman is commanded to live in her front yard during this time.

The Bible commands no woman to refrain from speaking about the Bible when men are around nor does it command us to wear scarves on our heads.

This is a very confusing OP and article.

Scarlett, I have not had an opportunity to read the book. I did think this article might be a good start on a discussion. On some of the points:

    On head coverings:

This is the verse the Old Order Mennonites quote as to why their women wear a head covering.

On not speaking to men on religious topics. I am not sure where it comes from, but in the synagogue women were not allowed to speak. This may still be true, I am not sure other than I am quite sure they are not allowed to speak nor sit with men in the conservative and very conservative groups.

Here is a link to another article on her with video clips of her explaining why she did it.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/23/a-year-of-biblical-womanhood_n_2006184.html#slide=1675988

On a wife calling her husband master the only verse that might be used is:

    1 Peter 3:5-6

5For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands, Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

And here is where far too many men fall short:

7 Husbands, take good care of your wives. They are weaker than you. So treat them with respect. Honor them as those who will share with you the gracious gift of life. Then nothing will stand in the way of your prayers.

Could be, but not for me to judge.

However I believe it is an interesting topic ... not just women living Biblical, but also men. None of us would fit in well if we suddenly found ourselves in the society and culture during the time Jesus was on earth.

Are you actually saying she's not a Christian at all. . .or just that she's not a believer in CBMW claptrap?

Amusing dissections of Mary Kassian's 'review' of the book are here:

So you're going to bring me to an egalitarian website to refute what is said about how this author approaches Scripture? Interesting.

Unbeliever? Really? We're actually going there? That's pretty pathetic, and it's also very telling.

The book is actually a very interesting read. She's not mocking the Bible. If anything, she's mocking the way we as believers have completely blown it in regard to women.

Strong women are only threatening to weak men fearful they might lose their position of control. Everyone else is grateful for their continued contributions.

"The husband is the head of the wife..." has had some serious deviations in interpretation--ever since women became liberated--from their imaginary slavery.

We have lost sight of what "help meet" might mean. Men are equipped to be fathers. Women are equipped to be mothers. This is totally meaningless to the lost who are totally involved in the aggrandizement of self. We live in a world of narcissists--many are packing bibles. Men have abdicated their thrones and women have gone after careers other than motherhood.

"There is a way that seems right to a man(woman); but the end there of is the way of death".

Solution: seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness...

    Peace,

    Bro. James

Strong and secure women are those who are confident and happy in the role in which God designed them for. Insecure and weak women are those who try to act like men.

Bwahahahahahaha! Show me the scripture that puts men on a throne anywhere other than in their own home, where for clarity someone must be able to make a final decision when there is disagreement. Then tell me:

If scripture ties women irrevocably to the "career" of motherhood why it doesn't also tie men in the same manner to the "career" of fatherhood?

The truth of the matter is that it simply doesn't. Period. *IF* men and women CHOOSE the path of marriage and family, then there are recommended guidelines toward making that path easier. But lets not forget that even in the culture of the first century Paul recommended that men and women remain single so they didn't have to deal with the obligations of family while they pursued a career. (in this case the career was that of missionary, but the concept can be applied to others)

It is only men who seek to control who place the imaginary burdens of scripture onto the shoulders of women, while refusing to accept those same burdens upon themselves.

Imaginary?? Did I say that? Oh yeah, I did, because Christ said "my burden is light and my yoke easy." And then He went to castigate those who claimed to follow the law but had completely missed the point.

When Women's Studies Professor Mary Kassian was confronted with Mrs. Edith Schaeffer's and Mrs. Elisabeth Elliot's books The Hidden Art of Homemaking and Let Me Be a Woman, along with the "uncompromising conviction [that] the virtuous woman serves primarily from the home as a submissive wife, diligent homemaker, and loving mother,” she was stunned:

Ms. Kassian goes on to note that the women she has addressed are:

Isn't that interesting? Not a single thing about how men how men should sit on the throne of their homes. Nothing about how women shouldn't work or that men should be the sole support of their families. No command for a woman to call her husband "lord" (personally I think that was sarcasm on both Sarah and Paul's part).

A whole bunch of stuff on how men should behave toward women. Not so much the other way around. :D

(though I do have to wonder what God was thinking to require marriage after rape....or perhaps the intention was only to require the bride price and not the actual marriage, for the continued support of the woman who would then be considered less than perfect)

    What role would that be?

Note, my point was addressed to MEN and you immediately redirected it and made it point to a woman - pretty much made my point there, thanks!

I am confused. If I am not married, and my father is dead, who do I call Master?
