    I understand the use of word “Hoplophobe” is somewhat pejorative, but I don’t think so much in comparison as to the use of the word “Homophobe” which in today’s society pretty much goes hand in hand as a common tool in left-wing arguments to support that “alternative lifestyle”.

    So, if the shoe fits why not use the shoehorn tool to put it on them? As the opposition has proved the use of “tool” like this can be very catchy. One only needs listen to the youth begin to defend the “alternative lifestyle” and it probably won’t be long before the word is used. It is effective in that people do not want to be thought of in such a light and it is quick to put the brakes on one arguments against them “if” the term is seen to fit.

    "Hoplophobia is a mental disturbance characterized by irrational aversion to weapons, as opposed to justified apprehension about those who may wield them."

    Should we (those who intend to defend the right to bear arms "in the public arena") not take advantage of the use of tool that will help "our" agenda?

    Is it ethical, fair and practical to do so to defend against left-wingers who would obviously have no qualms to use such a tool to help "their" agandas?

    Example argument:

    The NRA have enough common sense to understand both: The importance of preserving liberty and the rights to protect one’s self through maintaining the 2nd Amendment and with that in mind they have the foresight that an amicable solution should be attainable. - Such as putting armed police at all the schools. The NRA is seeing through the leftist agendas to attempt to use this tragic event as an excuse to take away the guns of law abiding citizens along with the tragic continuation of their mission to erode moral values which is the real cause of these types of events, not the guns.

    Additional “rhetorical jab tool” input to strengthen the argument in a public arena:

    Only through a “Hoplophobic” mindset could one not see this as a rational way to find a more reasonable and amicable solution than taking away the guns and constitutional rights of law abiding U.S. citizens!

    Yeah new word for me too. After considering it I'm starting to think it would be rather beneficial if it were better known.

    I'll help you out:

    First, Jeff Cooper is completely amiss concerning the impetus behind the antigun movement. It is agenda, not fear. Second, there is no such thing as homophobia or hoplophobia. Lies only serve the Left.

    :rolleyes:All phobias acquired a name somewhere along the way. So your ignorant fallacy and accusing points are mute.The name could have been coined form a a little girl from your Sunday school classes; that doesn't discredit that an irrational fear of weapons exist that can be demonstrated!

    The "true" question is does an obsessive neurotic irrational fear of weapons exist that guides people into making poor decisions?

    That other reasons can be claimed to exist does not removed the true "reality" that many express extreme unalterable solutions that people should not own these "dangerous guns". To demand that the only way to halt gun violence is to take away the guns as if they have a will of their own demonstrates poor reasoning due to a an irrational fear of the weapons themselves.

    I just heard a guy say his girlfriend was a school teacher and she said would quit her job if there was a n armed guard at the school. Is that rational thought?

    How about comparison to other phobias:

    If someone wanted to prevent forest fires by wanting to go to the extreme of overly harsh restrictive registrations of matches and wished to even go about banning them all, while unalterably reasoning such action was the only rational solution, it would be reasonable to suspect they likely suffer from an obsessive neurotic form of “Pyrophobia”irrational fear of fire

    If someone wanted to prevent murder from guns by wanting to go to the extreme of overly harsh restrictive registrations of guns and wished to even go about banning them all, while unalterably reasoning such action was the only rational solution, it would it be reasonable to suspect they likely suffer from an obsessive neurotic form of “Hoplophobia”irrational fear of weapons

    It is not fear, it is an agenda to do away with guns completely. Its political not personal.

    Doubtful that even the dim whitted prez we have now can do away with guns completely---nor the lilly livered supreme court---nor congress

    Although I do believe that its political and not personal--as you say!----they can't do away with guns completely-----BUT(and its a big one) they CAN and probably will "phangel" around and produce some sort of legislation that will somehow or other increase the price on all NEW individul handguns, and so called "Assault"(they're really not) rifles, the sale of hunting firearms---lever action, bolt action, pump action and semi automatic firearms----to the extent that it will discourage the vast majority of us from even considering a purchase

    By the way----have you purchased any center fire cartridges lately?? Shotgun shells----pistol rounds---and high velocity center fire bullets lately??? Priced through the "whyzoo" and you better get off of your wallet at checkout!!!

    I have not bought any practice rounds in a while because of prices. I still keep my magazines loaded with hollow points should I need it for anything.

    Liberals, dishonest as they often are, will work to sidestep the constitution by trying to regulate guns to death making the 2nd amendment worthless. Conservatives will not move on any regulations because we kn ow the dishonest agenda the left has. There could be room for give and take if not for the mistrust and the left and the knowledge of their true agenda.

    I'm glad the word hasn't moved into general usage by the public. We have enough of this already. For example, because I believe that any two becoming one, other than by a married man and woman, is a sin, there's a phobia label for me. When I take a stand on traditional marriage, I have a mental disorder -- a phobia.

    As Christians, we are to stand apart from the world, not join it. Claiming that everyone, opposed to firearms, is mentally ill and suffering from "hoplophobia" is a lie. Are we supposed to, according to our Saviour's teaching, to become liars?

    Aren't lies the stock and trade of many (most?) far left liberals? Our president set the example. He would not raise taxes on the poor. Yet, within days of becoming POTUS, he raised taxes on tobacco products. According to tobacco use statistics, this tax targeted the poor.

    Anti-gun movement: "It is agenda, not fear."

    It is a political agenda of the far left to beat down any opposition to the destruction of the Constitution. Lies are one of their weapons of choice. Should we chose that weapon, as well?

    Ephesians 6:KJB
    11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

    12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

    13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

    14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

    15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

    16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

    17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

    18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

    IMO, there's been a quiet emphasis, for a while, on controlling ammunition, while the public's attention is focused on "guns" themselves. Finding ways to increase the cost is a part of this emphasis.

    Keep the public's eye focused on the center stage, while stage left prepares to empty all guns held by honest citizens. Walmart will still be able to sell guns, as the public has the right to own them. However, Walmart will not be allowed to sell bullets. Those will have to be purchased from a government equivalent of an ABC store where the state determines qualifications for purchase.

    Nobody said to claim any such thing (everyone). To say otherwise is a lie.

    The Wiki definiton sounds biased from the left to me. A phobia is simply an irrational fear. So if the shoe fits...

    For school teacher to threaten to quit if an armed guard is at the school is irrational plain and simple.

    To many Christians roll over with their tails stuck between their legs is reason why this country is going down the tubes from unanswered left-wing agendas.

    Another thought: It seems some are quick to suggest it is un-Christian to use a term that could be taken as somewhat pejorative to your opponent even if the term is honestly applied?

    What about Paul, John and Jesus then? I can think of several uses of not only somewhat but strong pejorative and/or pretty definitive term being used by them in their arguments.

    So it is fine to belittle other groups of people, using a made-up disparaging term, if it helps move a particular agenda forward?

    What are the medical symptoms of a person manifesting a phobia?

    Yes, there are a few people who have a true phobia concerning guns, just as there are those who have a phobia relating to just about anything that you can name, including cracks in the sidewalk.

    I don't like snakes and wasps. Especially the latter, as I have a severe reaction, requiring immediate medical treatment if stung. However, I don't have a phobia about either one. The sight of neither one pushes me into displaying the symptoms of a phobia.

    Does everyone expressing opposition to guns display those symptoms?

    You have the right to express your opinion, that I'd never deny. That said, I respectfully disagree with your opinion. It is wrong, IMO, as a Christian, to label (belittle) a whole group of people based on the genuine phobic fears of a few of that group.

    Are we to stoop so low as to apply a broad stereotype paintbrush to those who have a healthy fear of what they have not learned to handle?

    I have a cabinet model tablesaw in my workshop. Used incorrectly, it can take off a hand in a split second. I want anyone who enters my shop to have a healthy fear of that saw. Most do, who have not been taught to use it. It would be wrong for me to label them as sawphobics, just because a well grounded fear stops them from turning it on.

    The solution isn't name-calling. The solution, just as it is with any phobia is doing what it takes to overcome the phobic fear. Afraid of flying - the cure is to fly.

    Hey, I welcome your opinion. That's why I started thread I'm interested in why people wouldn't use such a tool in debating this important issue. Not many have voted.

    Personally, I disagree with your definition which seems is limited to chronic clinical cases.

    I have been a custom cabinet maker with my own 2000sf shop for 30 years and still have all my fingers. I don't fear my equipment, I respect it. I teach other people to respect it and rules of safety...if an individual were to fear the equipment and wanted to take my tools away I would think they were being irrational.

    As for what you refer to as "name calling" to strengthen an argument being wrong, was Jesus wrong when He said:

    Mat 7:6
    (6)
    Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

    Is it the truth to call all who believe homosexuality is sin homophobes? Or, is it a lie? In the verse quoted, does Jesus tell us to cast lies unto dogs and swine?

    Revelaton 21:8 KJB
    But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

    IMO, it is a lie to say that all opposed to firearms have a chronic clinical disorder. Further, if we have to resort to untruths, half truths, etc. are we elevating guns to a higher level that approaches idolatry?

    I'm required to have my concealed carry permit in my pocket. As a member of the body of Christ I'm also required to don the whole armour of God.

    Ephesians 6:14 KJB
    Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

    BTW... safety and tablesaws
    A "healthy" fear of it does equal respect for what that saw can do. That fear reminds me to use pushsticks and to stand to the side of the kickback zone when using it. I never want a "fearless" person to turn on that saw. It takes about 15 minutes for parametics to get here.
