The Year the Dreams Died

Many, but not all second terms of President's do not seem to work out well. Lyndon Johnson, although not a complete first term, his second term was plagued by Vietnam, riots, and the economy. He declined to run for a full second term. Richard Nixon carried 49 states in 1972, and resigned a year and a half later. Reagan's second term was diminished by Iran Contra. Clinton's second term brought impeachment. Bush's second term brought an economic collapse.

It is hard to predict this President's second term, but the elements are certainly there for disaster.

 

The year the dream died.

Yesterday, for the first time in 16 years, our financial advisor urged me to move my IRA into the safest harbor that he could find. Better half and I aren't rich by any means. We do have a little in retirement funds, some of which has always been in a safe harbor. Over the years, our advisor has urged that a portion be kept in moderate risk because of the growth potential that risk offered. (And, BTW, offers more income to investment advisors, as well.)

That, by itself, is a strong indicator that the dream has died and we are waiting for the funeral.

 

In my opinion, America committed suicide in 2008 and the grave dug in November 2012. Now we are into the shoveling dirt onto the casket from here on out. No flowers. Just taps.

And economically, though I would rather the country not be in its current position, it's a non-issue in comparison to eternity.

How about God's people stop and amend the doom and gloom picture of THIS WORLD and ITS MONEY with the ETERNAL HOPE OF JESUS and the KINGDOM To COME?

We focus on this world and its stuff too much. The United States is going into the toilet. Does it really matter when you know what God says has to happen?

Why not just keep our eyes pointed towards His throne and recognize that this is becoming exactly what He said it would and it HAS to fail at some point. Why NOT now?

Does the economic policies of a President and Congress really amount to a hill of beans in comparison to the failings of the Church?

They are acting the way they are supposed to.

But it is the Church's repentance and turning back to God that can pull the country out of this downward spiral. The problem is that it won't happen. As there are more liberal voters than conservative voters, there are more people in the Church concerned about their money and stuff( houses, 401ks, retirement, their bank accounts, what they can leave to their kids and grandkids) than there are concerned about the things of God.

If the CHURCH repented and started making as much of GOD as we do about a President and a floundering economy, the economy would take care of itself.:thumbs:

The very idea that Obama is calculating or cunning is just laughable.

The man is nothing more than a product we've been sold. He's a sock puppet to the corporate elite who manufactured him, packaged him, heavily advertized him and sold us on him.

I liken this last "election" if we can call it that to the cola wars. Buy Coca Cola it's the real thing, buy Pepsi Cola it's more refreshing. Why is it so hard to understand this? If these huge corporations will spend millions upon millions just to sell us a sugary soft drink, why wouldn't they do the same and more to sell us a president?

Obama is a product manufactured and sold the same as any other. A can of Coca Cola isn't cunning or calculating. The people selling it to us are the ones that are cunning and calculating.

 

Except I would liken it----not to a can of soda---but to a pack of cigarettes-----and the general public has learned to like the political nicotine!!! The political nicotine won't let them vote for anyone else except from whom they get the nicotine from!!:BangHead:
