So, if you and I, responsible citizens, were leading a company that was heading for fiscal disaster and decided to give all our buddies in the company a raise and that got back to our employees and shareholders what would they do? Probably fire us.

    http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs...-members-congress-federal-workers_692223.html

So I guess we see that there is no reasonable argument that these raises were needed or that they should be given.

The leadership of our country is rotten to the core. Both parties are just a bunch of money loving, progress inhibiting, senile fools. How in the world can they a) make this much to begin with and b) justify their raises when they haven't done a blooming thing over the last two years?

I don't know why there hasn't been more outrage about this.

This is one of the reasons that General George Washington and the rest of the Founding Fathers gave rise to whats called

    The 2nd Amendment!!!!

So that when leaders lead the way they do in the future-----one disgruntaled American merely has to follow the other disgruntaled American to the steps of Washington and do something about it!!!!

    :type::type:

    But the problem is

240 years after the 2nd Amendment was ratified------we can't find anyone who wants to DO anything about it!!!

Senators represent thousands, millions of people. A salary of $174,900 does not seem excessive to me.

Their raise is a measly 0.5%. Still, you're right, they have been dysfunctional and don't deserve even that amount.

Actually they don't represent that many. Most of them only represent the top 1 - 3%. That equals only a handful

So true. Wanna bet 90% of them get re elected?

    How many bullets??

    How many beans???

I mean, why would that even be necessary?? During the Great Depression---there were plenty of both to be found and bought!!

The numbers are up to you and your particular need.

I think what is ahead will make the depression look like a bull market environment. Why? Because our society has changed. People have no respect for other lives or their property. Add to that a severe shift towards individualism and things are going to be very ugly.

I have been talking to local pastors for several years about the coming financial crisis. I have been urging them to look for ways to minister to people in preparing for what is to come, and minister to people when it does come.

That means finding ways to meet practical needs of this life in the context of a God who loves them and is concerned about these needs....but also their eternal need.

You've left out a point about the Great Depression......

Only those with money could buy beans and bullets. And, are you sure there will be "plenty of both" available for those who still have some money?

I'm afraid that this time, it will be worse, too. Back then, far, far more people (average Joes), IMO, were independent and self-reliant to begin with. Especially those who didn't live in the confinement of big city life.

All around me, now, are subdivisons with McMansions on postage stamp sized lots. Some of these are even more confined with townhouses and apartments. From observation, many of these people, especially of the younger generations, don't have a clue how to turn on a stove and bake a batch of scratch-made biscuits. Closets are full, electronics aplenty and the pantry is empty. Don't forget, too, that credit cards are maxed out. Living from paycheck to paycheck to enjoy the finer things that life can offer NOW means a "just in time" bank account.

As mentioned before, I grew up with parents who lived through the Great Depression. Also grew up on a farm, where one storm could wipe out a year's worth of hard work. Additionally was taught that 7 years of plenty can be followed by 7 years of famine. Society has implemented the same "just in time" inventory control system (lifestyle) that has been adopted by many business operations. Pantries have the bare minimum stored. Stores have the bare minimum stored. Warehouses have the bare minimum stored. Just enough to keep operating until the next delivery arrives. Just enough to barely get by at EVERY stop along the full distribution chain.

--- Heard discussion at church last night that most stores in our area have sold out of guns and bullets. Manufacturers of same are no accepting orders that for backorder for store owners. A: Lead time too long to promise delivery. B: No idea of what the price point will be, if/when delivery is made.

--- If the weatherman predicts a pending hurricane/snow/ice storm, applicable stores become mob scenes with shelves stripped bare of stock. We see how long it takes to get power restored and shelves restocked when a localized area is hard hit by a powerful storm. Now apply that premise to a whole nation. To the globe, if the house of cards falls.

In the Great Depression we still had operational factories. We still had women who knew how to sew on a button. We still had men who knew how to patch a tube to fix a flat tire. Today, of those under 40, how many have the knowledge, skill, and basic tools to make-do when dollars, if they have them, can't be used because store shelves are empty and fast food joints are closed?

If the populations during the Great Depression and today were equal ........

How many more would be in soup lines today than were during the depression? How many fewer soup lines will there be because the warehouses are empty? How many will be standing at the shore waiting for container ships that don't arrive "just in time"?

Have we reached the point of "it's too late", 7 years of famine have already started? Will the rescue arrive "just in time"?

Yes, I can see your point, Oldtimer!!!

My dad and mom both grew up as "Depression Children"---daddy was behind a mule & plow at 8 years old-----There was plenty of gasoline around at ten cents a gallon----thing about it was---his family didn't have the ten cents-----thus----there was a tractor----but it was useless without gasoline or diesel----so the mule team had to suffice

To hear him talk----it wasn't a "Carefree" life they lived on the Louisiana dairy farm----but a CAREFUL life----nothing wasted

Thanks for sharing your post!! I live on my FIL's Alabama cattle farm---but its different than what my father described and from what your post implies

There are some of us who can still live off the land--so long as we do not register our activity with the state. It costs a hundred bucks to get a license to sell turnips off the back of a pickup-- plus 10% tax on the gross to the various tax entities.

Does anyone realize that if we did away with most bureaucratic systems, we could be be debt free in a short time? The tax base to support the welfare state including the bureaus to support them has not existed for some time. We have used deficit spending to fund everything including wars. Now it is time to pay the piper--he is entitled too. He does not take credit cards or promissory notes.

    Even so, come Lord Jesus.

    Peace,

    Bro. James
