What I understand of the deal is that the leadership has agreed on the tax issues, but not the spending. That coupled with no real support from the rank and file means the deal would be DOA....so, no need to rush to vote tonight.

Is the cliff really a cliff when Congress can spend another month, or two, or three, negotiating and politicking and then make any settlement retroactive?

Granted the initial damage (by the policies and by panicking investors, etc) will still occur. Some of the damage can be retroactively repaired, but not all.

On a side note, I am glad I don't have a job writing tax return software for H and R Block or Turbo Tax. LOL

If you ask me----I believe that a bunch of Chimpanzees borrowed from the old Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom could have come up with a better way to avoid "The Cliff"

Better yet----I'd rather a Chimpanzee drive the country off the cliff than the brainless ones in Washington----starting with Obama

Last night, listening to the news, I was close to feeling like putting my hands around the neck of the "reporters".

THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END, AS IT WILL FALL OFF A CLIFF TONIGHT.

Yes, they still have time to do whatever it is they windup doing. None of this will have anything to do with the April 15, 2013 deadline for the average American's tax liabilities. That was completed at 11:59 pm, last night.

THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END, is going to do, IMO, more damage tomorrow than anything the Congress didn't do.

Unless they are stupid, those involved with payroll adminstration, already have plans in place, to quickly implement, what is needed once a decision is made. For example, it only takes seconds to change a tax rate in a database tax table. (In my former life, one of my duties involved admin of a payroll system, according to changes, regardless of whether new year or mid-year adjustments.) BTW, where applicable, Obama Care taxes, are (should be) already in place. But, that fact has been, ignored, because of the CLIFF.

However, John Q Public doesn't know that. All many know is that the SKY IS FALLING, thanks to the media.

News Alert - Another tentative deal has been reached. We'll see...........

Looks to me like the cliff would have been better. The senate republicans bowed to the emperor Obama.

Some places are reporting on the obamacare taxes too but, yes, the cliff has been the story being pushed. Not many media folks dare to point to Obama's pet as a real threat.

LOL While I have an advantage over politicians (being that I can make and keep a budget) I am not a trained CPA or tax lawyer. Nor am I an IT guru. So, yes I am sure the software designers are glad I am not on their team.
