Sometimes, watching a Democrat learn something is wonderful, like seeing the family dog finally sit and stay at your command.
With President Obama back in office and his life-saving “fiscal cliff” bill jammed through Congress, the new year has brought a surprising turn of events for his sycophantic supporters.

“What happened that my Social Security withholding’s in my paycheck just went up?” a poster wrote on the liberal site DemocraticUnderground.com. “My paycheck just went down by an amount that I don’t feel comfortable with. I guarantee this decrease is gonna’ hurt me more than the increase in income taxes will hurt those making over 400 grand. What happened?”

Shocker. Democrats who supported the president’s re-election just had NO idea that his steadfast pledge to raise taxes meant that he was really going to raise taxes. They thought he planned to just hit those filthy “1 percenters,” you know, the ones who earned fortunes through their inventiveness and hard work. They thought the free ride would continue forever.

It'd be funny if it wasn't all so sad.

    True.

They wouldn't be quite so shocked, if they'd watched Fox News, instead of the folks with tingling legs.

Good. The mooching class always seems to want others to pay their fair share (ie-higher taxes). I say it's about time they put their money where their mouths have been.

Just wait until the full impact of "free" obamacare kicks in. Or their energy bills go up with the obama war on fossil fuels (i.e., coal). And to think, he hasn't even been sworn in for the second time yet. Just wait. These people will rue the day and I agree, it would be downright comical if it weren't so sad for all of us working stiffs.

Mortgage deductions aren't off the table and neither are charitable contributions.

The joke is on them AND us! :tear:

The problem is that most voters did not give a thought to the difference between income tax and social security tax. The promise for not raising taxes on those making less than 400,000 was for income tax only. SS affects everyone. That is half the reason Obama was reelected. No one pays attention or takes the time to understand the issues. Good enough for them.

What does that have to do with it?

I'm retired, too. My siblings are still working and will be taking a direct hit. Thus, it's affecting my family.

And while this particular tax increase doesn't affect me directly through a payroll deduction, I will feel the impact at the cash register. Business tends to recoup operating expense through higher prices of their products. Unless something has changed in recent years, since I worked with payroll, business will be paying the matching portion of the payroll tax increase that EACH employee will have to pay.

That's it in a nutshell. And not only with this issue.

Far too many voters let themselves be led by the biased half-truth reporting media like a bull with a ring in his nose. Few reported on cattle prods that come along with pails of feed used to lure them into cattle chutes. Once in the chute, there is no opportunity to turn and go in another direction. Regardless of what waits at the other end of the chute.

Wonder how many pro-choice, pro-gay, pro-union, pro-whatever, who put him in office realized how quickly he'd put his hand into their wallets, too?

Good question. I guess their reason is the other guy is to pay, not them.

EXCUSE ME! The MOOCHING class? Being in a lower income tax bracket does NOT make someone MOOCHING class. It's called the WORKING class. We're borderline to being able to collect welfare and we WANTED to, we could figure out a way to do so and quit and with our medical stuff, that would be nice.

But my paycheck still reflects a good percentage taken out to pay for state sponsored murder and other things I do not believe in, and I reserve the right to complain about paying more into a system that is said won't be there for my children when they are ready for it.

And those ON welfare? Okay, fine. I don't like having less money, but I've been there and I don't mind giving for stuff like food and medical. The church as a whole in this country is PATHETIC when it comes to helping the poor. There's no way a poor person could get back on their feet by depending on their church, in most cases. The government tried to do what the church wouldn't. Oh wait, the LDS church DOES do the right thing. How many Mormons are on welfare or go without medical care?

Seems the church could take lessons from the government and the LDS church, because the poor come to what are supposed to be honest, true churches and get called moochers and looked down on and preached at from the pulpit and even when you go to those Christian sponsored homeless shelters, the "Christians" automatically assume the person made poor life choices and must be on drugs or alcohol and in fact, if you don't agree to programs to address drugs and alcohol, a lot of shelters now turn away people people "they won't admit their problem" so they sleep in cars or are forced to lie and take the classes so their kids have a place, and in comes the government to take the kids because the parents are allegedly using drugs/alcohol and the proof is that they're in the shelter and taking classes.

THINK about stuff before you say it! This entire nations is so stupid in how they approach the poor. The Christians hate them, the government doesn't help them change, just survive and not be able to change their situation (they USED to help with college education, but wasn't that a REPUBLICAN president who changed that?) and no matter what, most people who make more money than the next looks down on the person who makes less. Great attitude...money = "that person must be better than the one with less."

No matter how much a person's tongue says the right things, that ugly attitude always ends up popping out and being made clear when that person's bank account gets touched. All of a sudden it's not the fault of a corrupt government, it's the fault of the poor. HOW DARE THEY.

You have a corrupt government. The poor aren't causing it.

It is a shame what so many churches do or don't do for those in need.
Now there are many who would rather get help from the government because they don't have to face the people at the church. To many have allowed the government to replace family and church when it comes to the first line of help but will come to both when the government help has been used up before the end of month.
You are correct as far as I know about the LDS. They have been known of taking care of their own.

    Couple of points...
I can't speak for other churches in other areas. Around here, most churches do lend a helping hand. Several churches have food banks. We've done that, as well. Other ways that they/we have helped is to pay electric bills, prepare meals, pay rent, make home repairs, take people for doctor visits, buy gas for vehicles -- the list can go on.

Next, the government has systematically assumed the responsibility that has been historically a function of the church. Offering an alternative to seeking help from a church. An easy, check in the mail, alternative compared to types of assistance noted above. There are no bucks for the pocket of the receipient when I take someone for a doctor's visit for example. Or, when labor and materials are furnished to repair a bathroom. (Both of which I've done recently via our church outreach program.) Or, when our church writes a check to an electric company.

One of the problems associated with the government take over of aid is that it has to be done with tax payer monies. Taking money out of the pockets of members of churches, leaving less to put into the collection plate for this purpose. Right or wrong, it sets up the mindset - I've already given to the government to pay for low income housing, foodstamps, free medical care, etc. & etc.

Again, I don't know about other churches. In ours, horns are not tooted to proclaim how much we are doing to help those in need in our community. There are no press releases, announcements in the church bulletin, etc. Often, only the pastor, deacons, & those responsibile for accounting know who has had their electric bill paid. Or, for that matter that someone's bill was paid.

Unless one is absolutely sure, without a shadow of a doubt, that a church does not help those in need, please do not assume that they don't.

More to say, but have to run. Adults on Mission meeting tonight to discuss the next project that we'll take on to help another family/families in our community.

As more employers cut back hours because of Obamacare, probably more I'd guess.
