Let's make one thing clear. There is no such thing as a Presidential Mandate. You will not find that anywhere in the constitution. The President was not the only person elected and everyone who was elected has a mandate to serve the constituency they were elected by. None of those people are second class to those who voted for the President. No one has to automatically capitulate to the President. And the President does not get to act in any manner unchecked by the other branches of government. Pat Caddel, a Democratic pollster, suggested that this country is moving toward a per-revolutionary posture because of both the President and congress. I am wondering if he is correct. We have never had a more divisive President in America's history. Please keep everyone in prayer.

    Reagan vs. Mondale, 1984.

Reagan: 55M votes, 525 electoral votes
Mondale: 37M votes, 13 electoral votes

Reagan did not have a mandate.

    M'kay...

Do you even read what you write? You said:

I was merely offering some data that might, just might, refute your blanket statment.

So how do you believe your post refutes it? How did your post prove there is a Presidential mandate that all must follow unchecked by the other branches of government? Or did you even read the op?

May I repeat: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PRESIDENTIAL MANDATE.

    Grade School Civics 101:
    http://www.uen.org/general_learner/civics/government/three_branches.shtml
Regardless of the outcome of a presidential election -- either party -- the President only has the authority and powers granted by the Constitution and Bill of Rights. His popularity or lack thereof has no bearing beyond how he administers the powers granted the Executive Branch of government.

Further, this president did not receive a mandate, as the term is usually used, with regards to the adminstration of the Executive Branch.

    Popular Vote:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_presidential_election_united_states

    Obama 65,899,660 51.03%

Out of 129,132,671 votes cast, a win by 1.03% does not rise to the level of a "mandate", IMO, since almost half of the popular vote was opposed to his second term.
