No, we'll have church at 5 pm instead of 6:30 pm so people can watch.

We are having a class party, as usual; our class for single adults 30's through 50's. I would expect it to be 'as usual' also in being a crowded event which some do not stay long for, and there may be more, especially the women, who seem to be more interested in the commericals and the halftime presentations. Last year I clearly spotted when one team let the other score. No one cared but a couple of guys who disputed that at first, but then became convinced after a couple of replays.

It is something that's come a long way from Januray 15, 1967, when tickets were $7.50, it wasn't sold out, and both CBS and NBC carried it nationally.

No, just like any other Sunday. But if Georgia Florida game or Florida Florida State game or some of the HS state championship games happen to be on Sunday we might be in trouble, no we would be in trouble.

If the right team is in the Super Bowl I'll get up at 12:30 a.m. [00:30] and watch. If my team is not in it I will not set an alarm and go on sleeping until morning. Very few here have any interest in the Super Bowl.

As they tell me what we call football is not real football. A young man from Estonia said the only reason he can see that we call it football is because the players run around on their feet and do not ride a horse.

If I remember correctly - when I was in Germany - the day after the Superbowl was a training holiday - as stated below, the game doesnt start until around midnight - and the Army knows GI's will stay up for it - might as well as give them the time off.

I believe in evolution in that sense. Both football and soccer [American teminology] had the same ancestors, but one branch split from the other and passed on its advantages; which did not mean the game more like the 'originial' died out-- to the contrary, it thrived and dominated in most of the world. But somehow there was a uniquness which satisfied the time and place where the other branch thrived, then changed and still thrived.

Anyway, "not real football?" Well, what we play and watch here in the USA is closer to real football than basketball is real basketball. It's actually a foot that a kicker and punter use on the ball, but a real basket has a bottom-- what's put into it doesn't just fall right through it.

Nope. Some small groups might choose to get together for fun but there is nothing "official" at the church.

No but our church youth group is. As other than that, it will be just a reuglar church service. Makes you wish that the SB was on a Saturday rather than a Sunday! As more people and really churches all over the nation has to hate those two words, Super Bowl!

In reading most of the postings on this board I am reminded of a story my maternal grandmother told me 70 years ago about the person who encountered a woman with a baby and another small child standing beside her car which had a flat tire. After stopping and offering his sympathies, remarked that he would fix the flat had he not been late for church already.
