McCain just needs to drop the facade and start using the (D) by his name.

Illegals aren't going to be flocking to red states anyways. The impact on states will be minimal. The real impact will be in 2016 in the presidential race. The GOP will either alienate the Hispanic vote....which is not new. Or it will alienate the conservative vote...which is also not new.

Then they turn blue. Illegal aliens need to be deported and the borders secured.

Whats going on in Arizona renders this O/P, and McCain, completely wrong. Arizona is his state. He's an idiot.

Hispanics/Latinos are not going to vote Republican, period. If there was a chance of that the democrats would be fighting amnesty. Reagan granted amnesty to 5-6 million Latinos in 1985? so how did the Latinos vote in the 1988 presidential election? 70% for Dukakis, 30% for Bush. Republicans are the "stupid" party.

Crabbie, your concern for the Republican is heart wrenching, or is it heart rending, well whatever your heart is in the right place!

Gotta abide by our NAFTA agreement. The free flow of goods and people over our borders shall not be infringed.

I have to wonder how many illegal aliens come here to vote.

4-5 million would be my guess. And they print the ballots in their language to help them out. Shows how far gone the country is. People are supposed to be able ro read English before they can vote.

i have said for more years than I want to number that th liberals/leftist hate this country and want to see it gone, gone, gone

So if McCain is a RINO for supporting immigration reform were Bush II and Ronald Reagan also RINOs?

Voting patterns change. Blacks once used to vote overwhelmingly for the GOP, now they vote for the Democrats by the same margin. Bush in 2004 managed to get a large portion of the Hispanic vote-if this trend continues especially as Hispanics move into the middle class and assimilate, Republicans can very well win Hispanics/

Mung you need to remember some basic facts.

    1. No one makes an opinion based on one issue.
    2. Conservatives don't like some policies no matter who does it.
    3. Even a candidate we generally do like and agree with will do some things we don't like.

    With that in mind:
    1. I call McCain a RINO based on several policies. This is just a current example.
    2. I was no fan of Bush. In fact he did very few things I liked.
    3. I am a fan of Reagan. That does not mean I agree with everything he did.
    4. I don't care who is rewarding criminals it is wrong.

Now, as to Hispanic voters shifting? The middle class is going away, thanks in large part to liberal policies. However, let's assume for a minute it isn't. Are you suggesting that the middle class votes GOP? Are you suggesting the Hispanic bloc will move into the middle class as a whole?

I would suggest that Bush won a large portion of the Hispanic vote because of his liberal bent. Which, incidentally, is why I didn't like him. He was too far to the left for my taste. The War on Terror and tax cuts were among the rare areas I agreed with him.

Change "Mexicans" to "illegals" and I'd agree.

Please. I am not one for political correct stuff. I was pointing out I don't have a problem with Mexicans. You, apparently, do. My concern is criminals, regardless of race, creed, color et al.

I agree with all this, which is why I'm wary of calling anybody a RINO or a DINO for that matter.
John McCain has consistently been a conservative Senator with the exception of immigration (like Reagan and Bush) and campaign finance reform (one can argue for torture too, although I'd say the conservative, constitutional position is to oppose it). He's always been pro-life, very hawkish, and hasn't voted for Dodd-Frank/Obamacare/the Stimulus bill. While he did vote against the Bush tax cuts, Reagan also raised taxes when he found it necessary.

    Fair enough.

Yes, the middle class minority voters vote more Republican (the Republican electorate consists basically right now of poor and middle-class whites along with some middle-class minorities while Democrats consist of poor minorities along with upper middle-class/upper class whites) and Hispanics like most immigrant groups are moving up economically.

Hispanics are a fairly socially conservative group so on issues besides immigration its quite probable that Hispanics voted for Bush because of his conservative stances on abortion and gay marriage (and for Cuban-Americans, the general anti-Communist stance of the Republicans).

Actually what you call liberal policies are globalist polices. That's why they get passed from one administration to the next. Republicans are every bit in favor of "free trade" or globalization as the democrats.

John McCain even called for a "league of democracies". Look what the "war on terror" has brought us. The unconstitutional patriot acts, free speech zones. eroded the fourth and fifth amendments, gave rise to state sanctioned torture and kidnapping, it tripled the size and scope of government, gave us the TSA, DHS and naked body scanners, it has further militarized our police, merged the police and military not to mention that it has been used as an excuse to drop bombs and overthrow countries that were never a threat to our national security.

The "war on terror" has given our enemies a great recruiting tool, handed Egypt and Libya over to them along with all of Qaddafi's weapons now our enemies are stronger than ever armed better than ever and about to take over Syria.

Yeah the "war on terror" was a great idea. If the idea was to help strengthen our enemies, undermine our liberty, bankrupt our nation and destroy it's reputation. Did I mention that the "war on terror" has also been used as an excuse to abolish due process?

Now the government is letting us know that all the powers it has gained from the "war on terror" are aimed directly at us. We're the terrorists our government is so afraid of now.

In his time as a senator he has been what one would call a moderate at best. I believe it was in 2010 his vote showed a big conservative leaning, but his family has moved more to the left as he moved more to the right. His wife has always been way to his left. So no I wouldn't call him a conservative.

Eh...I wasnt and am not a fan of John McCain either. Dont trust him.

But I do think the GOP must work harder to bring minorities into the party. That doesnt necessarily have to mean amnesty though.
