Saw in the newspaper the anniversary date of Mexico ceding to the USA huge chunks of territory many moons ago.

Can someone point me in the direction of where I can learn more about this obscure (to me anyhow) event. What was it called.... Cheers

Kibbitzing: make a title search on the State of Texas before and after the Conquistadors went through searching for gold and youthful fountains. The native people probably have the moral title if there is such a thing. Now they have casinos instead. Are the titles held in Sicily?

Another interesting surf: politics in Texas before and after The Alamo. Notice: Sam Houston defeated and captured Santa Ana. The Mexican General was released to fight again. Strange.

In the end it will all melt with fervent heat. God has the title to everything. He will soon be making a stewardship check.

    Even so, come Lord Jesus.

The Mexican Cession resulted from the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo signed Feb. 2, 1848.

Anyone ever heard of California? Part of Mexico until the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, in which Mexico ceded Alta California to the United States. Western areas of Alta California became the state of California, which was admitted as the 31st state on September 9, 1850.

Thank you for naming the treaty. I get the impression you are being sarcastic. Not everyone is American on this board, but I am not stupid. If I have misinterpretated you, mea culpa.

US-Mexican War of 1846-48 resulted in the Treaty of Guadeloupe-Hidalgo under which Mexico ceded terretory comprising the modern states of California, Arizona and New Mexico plus chunks of what is now Colorado and Texas, minus the slice of land the Gadsden purchased five years later.

The word is kibbitizing. It means:
    • to jump into a discussion with a not neccesarily relevant remark.
    • idle chatter. Harry and Mick kibbitzed about rugby.
    • to remark on ongoing play, especially a chess game.
Kibbutzing has some thing to do with an Israeli farm community.

A kibbitzer(Yiddish) is someone who gives unwanted advice. I have a tendancy to kibbitz.

For many and various good reasons, American English has adopted (stolen) a good selection of Yiddish words and phrases. I recommend Leo Rosten's "The Joys of Yiddish." (available through Amazon)
