    Hello to all:

Does anyone know of the pending / ongoing controversy at LC over Calvinism. I understand that a prof's contract has not been renewed and that some trustees have resigned.

Is this the president's doing? I would like light not heat. I would not like for this to turn into a Calvinism debate or tearing down of "persons for whom Christ died." I would just like some facts please.

    "That is all."

Might be a good place to start. I saw a tweet from Ergun Caner today about this, but ignored it. Perhaps I should've looked deeper.

As I understand it, LC is in deep trouble financially. Maybe going after Calvinist and Reformed profs is a way to fire up the financial base. I don't know. However, while I only give random Internet forums and blog a half-measure of influence, it is telling what they are saying.

Are their financial woes the reason for the slow progress and virtually no updates on the law school?

Both of my sons are calvinistic SBC pastors and say the resurgence of Founders (calvinist roots) movement is being reflected in MANY schools. Not familiar with this one, but adding my comment as only an outsider's view of possibilities

    Founders Ministries

    Hello Dr. Bob,

Are you saying the "Founders Ministries" may have an influence here?

    Please advise when possible.

    Thanks.

If this is true...and I believe it is....Praise the Lord! I think part of this is a reaction from us "younger" guys to the overwhelming shallowness we grew up with. That is, at least, part of my own history. However, it is more than a "reaction". Once exposed to the Biblical soundness of reformed theology and seeing Holy Scripture as whole for the first time, I felt robbed/cheated/etc. looking back on my early formative years! Praise the Lord for faithful teachers and preachers who remained steadfast in Biblical truth for so many years.

'Founders' faction bigwig Fred Malone was on the board of trustees of Louisiana College and led its faculty hiring committee for several years.

    Jerome Response

    My Dear Brother Jerome,

Do I detect some sort of undertone or attitude in your post? Just checking, not accusing? If indeed I do would you be willing to explain please?

    No acrimony meant?

As I understand it, the Law School is DOA.

The blogs will help you draw your own conclusions, but the President hired a "calvinist" to head up the divinity school. For a number of years calvinists have worked happily at LC teaching within the bounds of the BFM 2000.

This is certainly an odd time for the president to begin making public statements on calvinism. It is no secret that Dr. Hankins would love to rid LC of any calvinistic influence.

Something has stripped LC's president of either the will or the desire to protect the non-tenured professors...they, and the students, are the real victims in this.

    It's a sad situation.

And I refuse to accept the label "fat", but I am. Regardless, Quarles is, at least, calvinist friendly...check out some of the dissertations on the professors who are being canned.

These professors, up until recently (middle of January to be exact) have not been at risk of losing their jobs for their personal beliefs on calvinism. Now, they are. A "protection" that could only have been coming from the president's office has been removed (a protection that Quarles doesn't need because he is tenured).

As a former student of his I can say that Dr. Quarles is definitely in the reformed camp. He does not accept the label of "Calvinist", but his lectures most certainly have that subtle tone. Even though I most certainly do not fall into the Calvinist camp, I have to say Dr. Quarles was my favorite professor during my time at LC. He is a tremendous asset to the school, even though I am a proponent of Dr. Aguillard's stance against Calvinism.

Anyone know why the law school is "DOA"? Didn't LC purchase the old federal court building in Shreveport for the purposes of making it the law school's home?? If true, it's a huge failure & disappointment.

I'm not sure if these are the only reasons... but I know they were denied the appropriate accreditation for it, that'd be a huge set back. Plus their Dean quit as well not too long after that.

Aguillard knew Quarles and approved of the professors that Quarles was bringing in. Canning them now is, at best, inconsistent. These are men with families an local churches that depend on them. They've not violated their contract and they have never taught outside the bounds of the BFM2000.

What could possibly be the justification for treating these men this way?

Answer: The unjustified militant vitriol and loathing that these anti-Calvinists/anti-Reformed retards have towards anyone that disagrees with them. THAT is the ONLY thing behind it. They're too intellectually inadequate, narrow, and shallow, to be gracious as so many others have been.

As you can tell, I find it hard to be gracious to them!

"retards" that must be an affirming spiritual term I have never come across. Will need to place that one in my lexicon.

LOL! It, in fact, is an affirming spiritual term. It usually accompanies the spiritual gift of cynicism! Both present with me!

In all seriousness, with the odd timing of something like this, it makes me wonder if, given LC's financial situation, there is an anticalvinist donor who has a massive amount of money to give with strings attached....being: fire the calvinists and you can have this money.
