The following is an email I sent to a respected friend of mine whose identity I will keep private. My comments are followed by a "tweet"(I believe) by Dr.Mohler that I found embedded in a HuffPost story this morning on AOL. I'll just let it speak for itself:

"You've GOT to be kidding me.....! The following is Albert Mohler's comment about the just announced resignation of the Pope.....'a brave and intelligent defender of TRUTH'????.....The POPE????.....unbelievable. His Calvinism is probably just a small leap into the mindset that will lead to satan's "one world church"! See the following quote by Mohler."

Albert Mohler, President of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Reacts
[IMG] @ albertmohler : Pope Benedict has offered a brave and intelligent defense of truth against a relativist tide, and he has been a stalwart friend of life.

What follows is the email reply I got BACK from my respected friend who I will say is a Southern Baptist Pastor....and then my reply to Him:

"Im thinking Dr. Mohler is speaking in the context of human life and probably the sanctity of marriage as well. He has always made very clear the theological differences between Christianity and Catholicism. I think the context was lost in the tweet."

    My reply:

"I sincerely do hope you are right.....somebody who has access to Dr.Mohler really ought to ask for a clarification. I don't "tweet" or do the facebook thing either or maybe I would. The following statement I'm going to make is strictly my opinion but I think it has merit from what I know of Catholicism. Their "stance" on birth control and Pro-life issues is more than likely because of the apparent "fact" that the catholic "church"is "built" by live births and sustained NOT by evangelistic (soul-winning or proselytizing) in the Biblical model, but rather by prohibiting their parishioners from practicing birth control aside from "natural" so-called rhythm methods. They are, of course prohibited from getting abortions as well. (we obviously CAN thank God for that). They build their "church" by making babies and "raising" their "membership" from the marriage bed.....UP. As far as I know it IS still true that if a non-catholic and a practicing catholic marry, the non-catholic is required to sign a statement that requires that any children born of the union must be raised in the catholic church. It used to be that way and if they have ever changed that I don't know about it. I honestly believe their pro-life "convictions are more about being self-sustaining as a church body than any scriptural or truly godly respect for life in the Biblical sense. Remember....this is the same "church" that gave us the Inquisition and had no qualms about murdering hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of "protestants" who refused to bow to their ungodly edicts and abuses. Catholicism is a false religion. They hide MUCH behind a false sense of "piety"and all their religious "finery". That is why we shouldn't join hands with them...even on the abortion issue. We should, as Bible-Believers stand against the murderous practice of abortion as well as other unbiblical things such as same-sex marriage,etc......but for sound Biblical reasons. We cannot yoke up with Rome, or Salt Lake City or any other unbiblical group and be right and pleasing to our God. We'll never see revival on any level if we compromise the plain teaching of and adherence to the truth. Nor will any preacher ever win any popularity contests by preaching or teaching the kind of stuff I just said. Ok...I'll climb off my soapbox now. I love and appreciate you."
    In Christ's Care,
Bro.Greg (end of my email correspondence)

    To close this post out:

I know that the Calvinists among us may take some exception to part of this correspondence but being a non-cal myself I have always kind of "put-off" by Dr.Mohler's calvinistic stance which has, in fact, affected my confidence in or my respect for his overall wisdom and discernment. I mean no one any offence but that is what it is. Sorry. As for the Pope thing...I do believe that the Catholic Church (Holy "Mother" Church) will be the false One World Church of the end-times. True Bible Believers simply cannot afford to yoke up with them.By the way, in my comments above I spoke regarding what (I believe) current and past Catholic practices regarding marriage and birth control to be. If by any chance I have been mis-informed or misled about what I said then please feel free to correct me. I only wish to speak and practice that which is true.

To put it simply- yes, your anti-Calvinistic stance has clouded your perception of Al Mohler and led to your misinterpretation of the meaning of his tweet.

I also note that you failed to mention any of his follow-up tweets on the matter, which make his stance quite clear.

Dr Mohler has always appropriately distanced himself theologically and ministerially from Roman Catholics. He has never equivocated on this. It is not a wholesale endorsement of a man or his theology to say compliment his stance on life. The Roman Catholic position on life is the most coherent biblical position I can find on the issue.

I think you're anticipating him being wrong based on a a priori dismissal of his larger theological conception. Which is highly ironic in and of itself considering Dr Mohler would be one of your closest allies theologically when considering the broader spectrum.

Why do evangelicals think we have to keep rebombing the same captured territory when the shifting smoke of the last attack makes us think there might be life left there?

    OK..but..

Mex...like I said in my post..I don't tweet or facebook (don't even know how) so no...I wouldn't have seen any of the follow-up tweets as you said. As it is...the ONLY ONE that HuffPost put in their story was the one I posted. Since you apparently have access to the follow-ups and I haven't a clue then please feel free to send me a PM with a link to them so I can read them. I would like to see them.

As to my anti-cal stance...it is what it is...and yes...I do have reservations about the discernment of those who embrace that kind of doctrine. Sorry...that is just the way it is. I am an open-minded guy but I do practice what I believe to be an appropriate degree of cautious objectivity and I try to practice what I believe to be Biblical discernment. I know you and certainly others here would question that simply based on my convictions concerning the KJV. So be it. I don't wish to be an offence to anyone here or anywhere else either but my main desire is that my life be true and pleasing to God. Like I have said many times before...we'll get all these disagreements straightened out at the JSOC. I'll certainly be glad.

One can appreciate the strong pro-life stand of the RCC, same way one can the Mormons, too bad both are classified as being "bibical cults!"

    Incidently...

Yeshua1...you are correct about both of those groups only so far as we can be thankful that more children are not murdered by their efforts. We must oppose their teachings and theology though as satanic. However, we also have to be realistic in that IF...and it is IF, the children that are saved from being aborted to be born alive in the flesh are "captured alive" in the spiritual sense by these groups or other false religions and live their lives here only to wind up in hell because they never got saved....then what has "actually" been accomplished? Being born HERE is only the beginning. Yes? I'm CERTAINLY NOT advocating the Pro-Abortion stance but the "silver lining" to this awfully dark cloud of modern day genecide is that EVERY ONE of these dear precious aborted children is already in the loving arms of our wonderful God....for eternity. What satan works men up into a frenzy and tries to do in his hatred for God, God turns around on him EVERYTIME. We'll never stop the world from this great wickedness....but we must rise up as God's Church and always vocally oppose sin and unrighteousness of every kind and at every turn. It is part of what seperates us from the darkness of this lost world.

    Amen to that!!

Aaron..amen to that. It is the Darwinist evolutionary worldview that leads people to think that "this is all there is" that inevitably leads to the moral darkness and unbridled wickedness that we are seeing in this day and age. Evolution completely denies the need for any moral compass (and robs man of it) and leads fallen men and women to the idea that anything goes.
That said, I am a huge supporter of ministries such as Answers in Genesis and the Institute For Creation Research. They are trying their best to further and support Biblical Creationism and Creation Evangelism to try to turn the tide but it is an up-stream swim in a swift current. Sadly and surprisingly, some of the greatest opposition they face is from "Christian" churches and "Christian" schools/colleges. Many have swallowed the "theories" of science (so-called).

    Just For The Record...

For the record....my Pastor (who I deeply respect) and I had a brief discussion about the above posted quote by HuffPost. He gave me some further context about Dr.Mohler's stance on Catholicism to instruct and imform me that Dr. Mohler does stand in opposition to their theology. That said....I don't (and should have known better) trust Huffington Post as a non-biased news source. I do,however, believe (in this modern age of "tweets") that people in positions such as Dr. Mohlers need to be VERY careful not to put things out in "sound-bite" portions that can easily be mis-quoted OR taken out of context. There was just enough in that tweet to make me think what I did. I do however, apologize to all if I have been a source of mis-information.
I do however, still stand opposed to his Calvinism. It leaves me somewhat leery of the effect that his embrace of that theological system has on the rest of his theological stance. He is a Christian gentleman with a wide-ranging ministry. I don't dislike or "hate" him. I just have to be cautious about what of his writings or teachings that I take instruction from.

    WHAT???!!!

    ...Apologizing for something?
    ...seeking to avoid misinformation?
...Calling someone on the other side of an issue a "Christian gentleman"?
...Acknowledging the contributions of that person's ministry?
    ...Not disliking or hating him?
    ...being "cautious."?

Sorry, Bro. Greg, but these things just are not done on the BaptistBoard! We will have to make sure this kind of attitude doesn't spread and become commonplace, won't we?:laugh::laugh:

Great testimony. I respect you for being willing to admit you might be wrong- not enough of that happens here on the BB.

It is entirely too easy to take one "Tweet" or Twitter out of the context of a man's entire body of writing and action.

You have nothing to fear from Mohler's teaching. He is an old, old time SBC preacher back to the days of the beginning of the SBC. Would to God that the SBC in it's entirety would return to those roots... but that is fodder for another day.
