Are Teachers Unions a Drag on U.S. Schools? Here’s What One Prof. Had To Say About It

“We talk endlessly about improving public schools. So what’s standing in the way?” asks the following video from Prager Univeristy.

Indeed, even after all the money, the rhetoric, and failed initiatives by U.S. politicians, it doesn’t seem like things are improving for our schools. In fact, it’s seems like just the opposite.

So what’s the deal? What’s holding us back? According to Stanford Professor Terry Moe, it’s the teachers unions.

“[T]he teachers unions are by far the most powerful groups in American education,” says Moe. “More than that, they are special interest groups, which means that they use their power to promote the special interests — the job interests — of their members.”

“They are not in the business of representing the interests of children, and no one should expect them to do that,” he adds. “The purpose of a union is to represent the job interests of its members — and these interests are simply not the same as the interests of children.”

The problem is that while Unions can be a good thing, since the far left has taken them over they Unions have become a Marxist tool to advance their agenda under the guise of collective bargaining. They dress up their Marxist agenda with this cloak and they control things in this country through it.

It is dishonest and only the far left and uneducated support it.

Which is how Obama got re-elected. By the far left and the uneducated.

So now teachers are Marxists. The world in your mind is a scary place. Must be awful to live in such fear and delusion.

Agree 100% with the op. I loathe...no HATE unions in any form, but particularly public unions. Teachers unions are a farce. In today's day and age and with our employment laws in place, they are nothing but leaches on society. My sons 1st grad teacher makes 85k a year (public record) to work 1/4 of it. The same as the principal due to automatic step increases and tenure. I can barely bet her to acknowledge a hand written note I send with my son clarifying a note she sent home! Where else does the employee make the same amount as their boss?

It's both funny and sad at how many of these right-wing nuts, SNIP , just don't seem to see how extreme their position is with regards to sanity.

Jealousy doesn't become you. If you want this money, go to school and get a degree in teaching, other wise, shut-up!

I did not say that. Once again and like usual you misrepresent my words. You really should read what was posted rather than react. That way you do not embarrass yourself.

Go take a nice long stroll off a short pier, troll.

My tax dollars help pay her bloated salary, I have as much say as anyone. Its not jealousy, its wasteful spending.

You sure do sound jealous to me, complaining that someone else is doing better than you are. Don't be lazy, go to school and get an eduction. There has to be something you are good at; let the school counselor help you.

That's after you get your degree in teaching and acquire state certification. Then by all means, join the union!

    Why are you?

BTW, MP's character is far superior to what you portray here. All you do here is complain and throw temper-tantrums.

You are a gnat, Robert. Always have been. You are hardly worth anyone's time, here. You and your bible denying buddies.

Show me a complaint or a tantrum, if you care about credibility.
