Politicians--Can you give a straight answer?

Take a look at the article at the link. It concerns whether or not the state representatives in my area would oppose or support allowing liquor stores to be open on Sundays. This is not a complicated issue, full of policy nuance. Yet, consider the answers given by politicians.

One person gives a history lesson and doesn't state her position one way or the other, promising to consider it if it comes up. [Duh!] She takes several paragraphs to do so.

One person answers the question directly. [Yay!]

Another person claims that opening liquor stores on Sundays would increase liquor sales by only 0.5% even though the days the store could be opened would increase 14.2%. She then criticizes other state's liquor laws before finally stating she would likely oppose the idea.

Finally, another says she would carefully listen to citizens and give the issue thoughtful study.

BTW, I oppose. See how easy that is to say!

More importantly - why do you oppose the law?

Because I'm in favor of big government regulations that shackle individual entrepreneurship and want to hamstring free enterprise.

    NOT!

Actually, if someone can't think ahead to buy beer, wine, or booze on Saturday so they can 'make it' through to Monday they have a drinking problem. I don't see where having liquor stores open on Sunday is a particularly good or compelling idea worthy of changing the existing law.

Now in Wisconsin you can buy 24/7. Right Arbo?

We have the same issue this year in Indiana. We have 600 liquor stores statewide but the grocery stores and big box stores want to sell liquor on Sunday, which would force a lot of liquor stores to open to meet the competition. I favor leaving things alone. I don't know what Governor Mike Pence (former Congressman) will do as he says the GOP should stay out of social issues.

And I thought all that was going on in MN was the juicy Lucy--hamburger with cheese cooked inside, right?
