I will try not to be annoying on this forum with all the questions, but I'm a long time lurker and respect a lot of opinions on here.

I remember reading quite sometime ago that missionaries were not allowed to speak on the second coming of Christ or the rapture. Is there any truth to this? Thanks

Send asterisktom a PM with this question, or better yet, direct his attention to this thread. I've no doubt he could answer this question in detail. He's in China now, and it may take a while for him to get the chance to respond, but I'm sure he would.

Here is a reliable-looking source: http://berkleycenter.georgetown.edu/letters/on-the-private-practice-of-religion-in-china. Scroll down to the response by Korean Joohee Kim, who verifies that the Chinese government forbids the teaching of the 2nd Coming of Christ. The 2nd Coming of Christ is anathema to them because it means there is Someone above them, Who will judge them someday.

In his response on the website, Kim talks about the "Three Self Churches" which are owned by the Communist government. This is a reference to the concept of an indigenous church invented by missionary Henry Venn (1796-1873), in which the goals of mission work should be self-propagation, self-government and self-support. To the Chinese government, this came to mean a Christianity totally independent from foreign influence--a governent church.

The "house churches" of China are thus still illegal, and still persecuted by the Communist governement. Pastors and believers are still thrown in prison for their faith, though some restrictions have been eased by local governors, if not by the central government.

Thanks John, for the link and the info.
A few years ago I met some Chinese “Christians”, and related to them my concern for Christians in China because of all the persecution....

Well, they were members of a state Church and they scolded me and told me that things are great in China for Christians and that I had been misinformed.

The Church in China, that is made up of those members of “house Churches”, are truly STRONG CHRISTIANS, because their Faith actually costs them something!

There may be a time coming soon in America, when being a truly committed born again Christian, will cost us EVERYTHING! Then the “true Church” here will be like it is in China.
