I know a lot of people don't care for him and say he was too rooted in "easy believeism". But his books, writings, and sermons have made quite an impact on my walk with Christ. The Hungry Inherit really hit deep for me and I've been trying to collect and gather all of Zane's material.

This was the author who wrote saved by free grace, right? the one that Charle Ryrie of the study bible fame agreed with?

Absolutely free is the book you're thinking of. He wrote in response to MacArthurs Lordship Salvation views (I enjoy him too). Yes, Zane did have ties to Ryrie. I use his study bible and find it helpful. Thanks for the post

Think that he was a writer as regarding his position of it being JUST faith in Jesus saving us, but also think that both he and Dr McArthur have had their positions misunderstood by those holding to "lordship/free grace sides!
