    Was there any particular time, event or person that may be considered responsible for the turning from the origional position to the present stance on the Doctrine of Grace among the SBC Churches?

    What was the original position? I don't think there's nearly the consensus about that which is presupposed in the OP.

    "Sorry bout dat pJ".From what I have read from SBC History and writtings from the likes of Mullins, Broadus Manly and other In the late 19th and early 20th century the denomination was dominated by Calvinist along with their teachings. However I find this not the case presently.

    In the 1850s, Southern Baptist founder Rev. James B. Taylor (the first Secretary of the Foreign Missions Board) reported that Baptists generally adopted the view:

    Both opinions were prevalent within the denomination. At various times the leadership emphasized one over the other, but the pews held both, always have.

    The SBC was fundamentally Particular in their view of redemption from the time of the founding in 1845 until the downgrade of doctrine that accompanied the liberal take over in about 1963 when Arminianism and Semipelagianism contaminated SBC theology.

    Since the time of the conservative resurgence about 10% of SBC leaders and 30% of recent SBC Seminary graduates self-identify as Particular Baptist (IE Reformed or Calvinist).

    Here is the official SBC position, found in the Baptist Faith and Message:

    This is a carefully crafted statement written in vague enough language that it does not alienate either the Calvinists or the non-Cals.

    On the other hand, the paragraph on Regeneration seems to lean more toward Calvinism:
    Although Southern Baptist churches are independent and autonomous, an individual must generally agree with the BF&M in order to serve on any SBC Board or Commission.

    Just curious, why did Al Martin (in NJ) never allow the word "Reformed" and always preferred Particular Baptist for the church he pastored in.

    Yea I am very familiar with the article in that link. No where in the article does it word things the way you have. Apparently you have a reading comprehension problem. As has been said in this thread there have always been both views in the convention.

    Absolute proof that that your seminary was lying to you. That isn't a surprise because if they taught Calvinism they lied about it too.

    I agree with RevMitchell... This is a fantasy.

    There have always been Particular and General Baptists in the SBC. The ratio has waxed and waned on either side, and in certain geographical areas, but the reality is that the SBC has always been a mix.
