Anyone ever bought into this book "Heaven Is for Real" or similar like "90 Minutes in Heaven"? I heard someone in my Sunday school said they were all giddy about it. What do you think about "Back From The Dead" stories? BTW I already know my conviction and will share them.

I posted a very similar thread a few months back, I'd guess.

I have a problem with them. I read Heaven is for Real when our church put out a list of books to read for the summer last year and hubby and I decided to not put the book out for our campus. I really need to speak to our senior pastor about it because we've experienced a few others recommending the book from different areas of leadership and I'm just not comfortable with it.

Bottom line, it's unbiblical. He had wings as did the angels. He seemed to be the center of attention with the angels singing "Jesus Loves Me" to him. I'm sorry but I just don't see these sort of things in the Scriptures and as a matter of fact, I see the opposite. I'm afraid these sorts of books bring us to a place of seeking experience rather than the truth. Why are people all excited about this kind of thing when we already have a pretty clear picture of heaven from the Scriptures? It just makes no sense to me but then again, I'm really not an emotionally driven person but instead much more black and white.

I have no clue. My husband says that I have a lot of discernment and sometimes I wonder if I'm just too harsh on some issues but this is not one of them that I'm being overly harsh on.

Whenever anyone asks me about these books in particular or similar books, my answer is always the same:

Why is the Bible and an empty tomb not enough?

I think the hubbub about these type of books just goes to demonstrate that many Christians don't have a clue.

Guess they don't read 1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God,

The reason I believe we should be is that its totally unbiblical as you pointed out and seeks experience over truth.

Paul was caught up into Paradise(Heaven)and he was forbidden to speak of what he saw and heard--do you think God will let people of today speak of those things if they really were in heaven and not let his Apostle speak of them ?? :love2::love2::love2:

Did Paul die? Scripture says its appointed unto man once To die after this the judgment.

Paul was stoned to death at Lystra --went into paradise and come back into his body--is the sense it gives

Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. 20 But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe. Don't see it here. Thinking he was dead? Nope!

the people thought they had killed him which they did--but God made him alive again --Paul is the one who knew a man that was caught up into paradise- Paul is that very one--he was killed but raised and came back into his body. you cant go into paradise while being alive in this body ? no corruption is allowed in paradise.

I have read the book. It is very touching, but alas, another fairy tale. The story of the rich man and Lazarus make several things quite clear. When we die, we either go into the presence of the Lord, or we go to hell. There is no going back to earth from either side, nor is there any crossing over between heaven and hell. This basically means the book is baloney, and it also means, the idea of ghosts roaming the earth are baloney. Ghost Hunters is entertaining, but bull.

Heavily drugged. Remember that he was in surgery for an infected burst appendix.

Acts 14:19 says "they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead."

This is the closest anyone has, which obviously says they thought he was dead. Which means he wasn't. Using language of "supposing" means they were wrong.

So, it says it nowhere. :)
