What Form or Manner of Death Bothers you Most???

I would like to avoid the "slow and painful" type. :smilewinkgrin:

 

The one that would bring the least suffering and hardship to my family and close friends.

Lost my mother after a 12 year battle with cancer. Lost my father 13 months later from a swift massive heart attack. Each of these bring a differing set of suffering and hardship. With my mother, we knew it was coming, as we, in essence counted down the days. With my father, there was no time to say goodby.

Naturally, personal preference would be to go to sleep one night and wake up with Him. But, is wanting to going that way selfish, if my better half is still sleeping beside me each night?

 

Out side of being burned alive. I can't think of a thing that would be more painful. Yet that pain only last as long as it takes to burn through the nerve endings in the skin. Needless to say I do not wish to be burned to death. I'd like to be wide awake and conscious of my surroundings. I'm not worried about where I'll be afterwards yet I would like to see or at least be aware of the process of the whole thing. Regardless of how morbid that may seem to some folks. I don't believe that death is an ending but a constant continuing of life from one phase to the next. Rather like walking through a door.

The bible say's that the last enemy that shal be destroyed is death, 1 Cor 15:26. Death is a enemy to natural life but the sting has been taken out of death for the Christain. Death need not bring on fear because we have a promise of God that though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death he will be with us, so we should not fear any evil. We should not fear because God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power and of love and of a sound mind, 2 Tim1:7 If we have the spirit of fear, this spirit is not of God but is to be rebuked and cast aside. The bible say's there is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love, 1 John 4:18. As the day of death approaches if one remembers that he will never leave us or forsake us, but he will go with us, all the way, even to the end of the world, this love to him and from him will cast out fear. He also will not put on us more than we can bear. We should ask God to die a death that would most glorify him. There was once a Christain man that had prayed long for his sons but he was now struggling in pain on his death bed and had not seen them saved. His thoughts as he left this life was that his son's might not believe salvation was real as they didn't witness their father dying a calm death. After the old man's death the brothers were over heard talking of their fathers death. One said to the other, If death was such a painful burden to our father can you imagine what the second death in hell will be to us. The boy's sought the Lord and was saved.

I always have a horrific fear of dying by being shot with an arrow---like the Wild West---or as a Viking(or some other Gladator type)---being "thrust through" with a spear, sword or knife of sorts!!

 

It was nice of John Calvin to help Michael Servetus through the next door.

 

Aside from a long sickness like cancer, the most horrific death is right in front of our nose daily on this board, crucifixion.

Brother, you've just nailed it, with a small correction, IMO.

Even a long sickness like cancer can't compare to the suffering of our Saviour. Especially in these days of modern medicine.

A few years ago, lost my SIL after her 5 yr battle with cancer. She knew from the beginning, it would take her life, as it was advanced when first discovered. Just as Jesus knew, at some point in His life, how His life would end.

Her final days and hours were in a hospital bed, surrounded by friends and family. Everything was being done to make her as comfortable as possible. The contrast between our Father calling her home and .... pause...

The emotion comes out very clearly in your post. I think one thing we forget about Jesus on the cross, it was not just the physical pain, which is beyond our imaginations in this time where we rush to the emergency room for an ingrown toenail, but the greatest pain of all, is at one moment in time, being seperated from God the Father, and bearing the sins of all history. This is a pain that human words and mind cannot begin to describe or feel.

The older I get, the less it seems to matter. The ideal way for me to go is to be standing on my porch. Sipping a cup of coffee while watching the sun crest the hill in front of my house. To see Him, with these earthly eyes, call me home.

 

Or peel my eyes open like on the movie "A Clockwork Orange" and make me read all the Calvinism vs Arminianism threads on this website.

That would be a grizzly death.

Drowning. I can't imagine what goes through the mind while holding your breathe that last minute.

 

Being in the front of a canoe and being shot by some toothless backwoodsy guy. Then tumbling into the whitewater rapids. And my buddies Burt Reynolds and Jon Voight cannot save me. Then they tie rocks to my body so I'll sink into the river bottom.

Yeah. That would do it.
