Get Into a PhD Program w/out an Accredited BA / BS

    Hello to all:

    This is a very interesting story on a lot of levels. There has been much said here over the years about unaccredited education and degrees. This particular story has to do with someone who does not hold an accredited BA yet has come to be accepted by The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. PhD program.

    I think all who are going for their doctorate should read this, if for no other reason than to keep in mind perseverance.

    Great article! I was glad to see him recommend going the accredited route though he didn't. Great advice. Encouraging. Also, glad to see his admonition not to neglect family either.

    Encouraging for me who has a BA, MA from a TRACS accredited school. (why I need this ThM from SEBTS so badly)

    Greektim, do you think you were adequately prepared for your ThM work at SEBTS? Also, any observations you've made about preparedness of peers from RA schools. Just curious about your thoughts since you've experienced both.

    Looking at their catalog, it actually has a paragraph talking about their provisional acceptance of non-ra degrees. Very promising for some.

    Sorry I never responded to this.

    I feel I was fairly prepared, however I had to be extra studious as well. I was also 1/3 of the way through a PhD program (same school as BA & MA) as well, so that helped me. I felt like those who did the MDiv or doing were a bit more advanced than me. They did their bib studies stuff at the grad level whereas I did much of mine at the undergrad. So there was a bit of a difference, but I quickly rose to the occasion.

    SEBTS did require leveling classes to see if I could keep up.
