The Czech Baptist, at their annual meeting, voted and officially refused to take restitution money from the government. The government officials were very confused and could not understand why the money was refused. The other side of his coin is the general population of the Czech Republic are applauding the Baptist ... whom most know little or nothing about ... with the result being this action the Czech Baptists have won a huge amount of good will from the population of the country. Yesterday a young Catholic said that she greatly admired the Baptist for their decision.

    Was Wondering....

....if a Czech Baptist was in Australia, would that make them a "Czech-mate?"

I'm sorry CTB, but you gotta go with the flow of the spirit as well as your own creativity! No back to the topic, and again forgive me for making light! :type:

Awesome news. There are some Baptists in America that would do well to take heed of the their example.

I must have missed all of this. Why would the Czech government offer money to any denomination?

Really? Why would the current government feel responsibility for something they couldn't have possibly controlled?

I believe a huge amount of pressure has been put on the government by a very large church that desires all their buildings and property returned. I'll leave the church unnamed. So if they reimburse one religious organization they feel they should reimburse all. That is my guess.

Okay, I guess that makes a certain amount of sense, IF, the un-named church can prove that it held title to the properties before the War, that the Communist gov, took those properties and the current one still holds them. That is a lot of ifs. But restitution? That I don't see. It isn't the current govs job to pay for the mistakes of the previous one. But, I don't live there, so my opinion probably doesn't count for much!
