    Ron Paul

Forced lockdown of a city. Militarized police riding tanks in the streets. Door-to-door armed searches without warrant. Families thrown out of their homes at gunpoint to be searched without probable cause. Businesses forced to close. Transport shut down.

These were not the scenes from a military coup in a far off banana republic, but rather the scenes just over a week ago in Boston as the United States got a taste of martial law. The ostensible reason for the military-style takeover of parts of Boston was that the accused perpetrator of a horrific crime was on the loose. The Boston bombing provided the opportunity for the government to turn what should have been a police investigation into a military-style occupation of an American city. This unprecedented move should frighten us as much or more than the attack itself.

What has been sadly forgotten in all the celebration of the capture of one suspect and the killing of his older brother is that the police state tactics in Boston did absolutely nothing to catch them. While the media crowed that the apprehension of the suspects was a triumph of the new surveillance state – and, predictably, many talking heads and Members of Congress called for even more government cameras pointed at the rest of us – the fact is none of this caught the suspect. Actually, it very nearly gave the suspect a chance to make a getaway.

The “shelter in place” command imposed by the governor of Massachusetts was lifted before the suspect was caught. Only after this police state move was ended did the owner of the boat go outside to check on his property, and in so doing discover the suspect.

No, the suspect was not discovered by the paramilitary troops terrorizing the public.

    CONTINUE . . .

You know----I got to thinking about it----Paul's words----

    Forced lockdown of a city

Its funny how the city wasn't locked down during Paul Revere's ride

The city gets locked down over two idiots with a crude bomb but doesn't get locked down over the march of the British Army

    It did. !!! :BangHead:

"Never let a good crisis go to waste."

Thought about that more than once, when I saw what was happening in Boston. It appeared this crisis was being used as an excuse to practice what will be / is becoming "routine" in this country.

    Frogs in the pot.

At what point will minor (relatively speaking) events evoke a military-style occupation of a city or even a region? Lock-downs of small areas, such as a shopping center are already becoming common. Periodically, local news reports that somebody thought they saw someone doing something. Lockdown. Later report = nothing found, activity was NOT as claimed, etc. - Lockdown lifted.

Take away their weapons and herd them into corrals without due process.

By valid of course you mean an answer that fits neatly into your false left vs right paradigm. Sorry Salty the Ponch don't play that.

Rev, I would have them act like police and investigate the crime then make arrests once they had enough evidence. This was a show of force period. This is what freedom looks like now. A man in a black military style SS uniform pointing an M16 in your face and barking orders at you.

Sadly, (like our friend Salty) we have been conditioned to believe that the job of the government is to keep us safe, but in reality the job of the government is to protect our liberties. Once the government decides that its role is to keep us safe, whether economically or physically, they can only do so by taking away our liberties. That is what happened in Boston.

How would you have them act Salty? Lock down the whole state? Wait I got it. Next time they should go block to block waterboarding citizens to get information on the bad guys. Yeah that's it! USA! USA! USA! Hooah!

I'll put it this way - if someone is in my house robbing me, I am not going to demand that the police have a warrant before busting in....

That's where you're wrong. I used to be just like you living deep within the false left vs right paradigm. I'm free of that now but I still remember what it was like. You're still stuck there and have no knowldge of what lies beyond it. I have the advantage of being able to see things from you're perspective but until you can see beyond the false paradigm you have no way to see things from my perspective. That's a divide you'll have to cross before you can hope to understand my answers.

The total picture? You mean like the corporations have invaded and occupied the government? The total picture doesn't begin or end with liberals. The fight against liberalism isn't the total picture like you and others keep trying to tell me. It 's not left vs right it's right vs wrong. You want to feel safe? Get a big dog and a big gun stop encouraging the police state take over of America.

Back to the OP, I think Ron Paul has it exactly right. We gave up the right to assemble at the order of the gov't not just in the subur where the surviving terrorist was last seen, but also in a major city that was once known for championing freedom. We have traded freedom in order to have the gov't "protect" us. It is not a good trade.

Without a search warrant, ask for permission to enter and search a home.

This is one of those times, that I wish our founding fathers could voice their opinions on what is happening today. Would love to hear what those who signed the Declaration of Independence would have to say, if they could speak again from Independence Hall.

Ok I guess I was speaking of the lockdown. What would be a good alternative for that and why would anyone not want to clear the way for law enforcement knowing a killer was in the area? As far as the need for a search warrant I agree but why would anyone not let them go ahead and search without one? Did someone refuse and law enforcement bust in anyway?

In the case of this individual that addressed you, he would talk them to death. Always talking, never understanding.
