How do you hear from God? How does God speak to you? Do you hear from Him often or rarely? is it clear or vague? Do you know when you have heard from Him?

God has spoken from his Word. When I read it, I've heard from him.

Agreed, God uses His word to speak to us today.

True, but does He speak directly, and by other means?

He can speak to us any way He wants, I'm just not believing all who claim "God told me", must be discerning.

There is only one instance in which I KNOW I have heard from God...that's through his Word.

This is an area which has always fascinated me. We all would agree that God speaks to us through His Word.

But there are life decisions that face us. How does God reveal His will in these areas?

For instance, when God calls a man to preach, or to the mission field, or into evangelism, or the music ministry, how does He communicate that call. I've asked many preachers about their call, and the answers vary.

Those of you who were called to a ministry, help us out here. How did you come to the conclusion that God was calling you?

I'm thinking John of Japan can be of help here. Maybe he will talk about his call, and how he wound of in Japan.

I know of one preacher friend of mine who says he heard God's voice.

I know of another who said there arose in him a strong desire to preach the Word, a desire he believed was placed in him by God.

I know still another who simply knew that God wanted him to preach, but he resisted for several years. God beat up on him and made him miserable until he finally surrendered and got some peace.

I've talked with people who said that God opened some doors and simply closed off others regarding His will for them.

This is is going to be good, I call tell.

I wish I could hear God speaking out loud every day, telling me exactly how to be obedient to Him and serve Him and honor Him! But that's not how He does things.

We should recognize that God sometimes speaks to us through other people.

We should not expect God to speak to us in a sensational, spectacular, supernatural way!

God usually speaks to us in such a quiet, non-spectacular way that we're almost never going to be 100% certain that we heard Him, and we just need to get used to that.

God speaks to us through the written Word! Jesus will not contradict Scripture, but neither is He confined to Scripture! He releases the Bible's truth for us.

agree with brothers that in the Bible is the SURE word God is speaking to me, but also think that God can and does speak to us thru circumstances, open/close doors, other people, and that the H propmts us at times to do things...

that happens to me a lot in witnessing, as at any time, he will start convicting me/prompting me that he wants me to share Chrsit right now with other person, usually its when I don't feel need to!
