Poll Survey: The World’s Mortality Rate

Over 162,000 will die on an average day. What is their eternal destiny? Obviously, we have no idea. However, some people have estimated that only 7% of the world’s population adheres to the Biblical plan of salvation. Even if that estimate is totally wrong and the number is actually 70%, that still means that over 48,000 are going to Hell every day.

What is the relevancy of these numbers? Should these numbers have any impact on our lives? I’m conducting a poll and would like your opinion on this issue.

    Calculations:

    World’s population: 7.08 billion
A little less than 1% (0.837%) of the world’s population died last year
    7.08 billion x .837% (.00837) = 59,259,600 deaths a year
    59,259,600 divided by 365 days = 162,355 deaths a day
    162,355 x 30% (.30) = 48,706 people going to Hell

Do you believe that 70% of the world's people are saved?

I believe there is something we can do to affect these numbers. We can witness so that people have the opportunity to hear. We can give to help others go to places we cannot go so that they are able to hear.

I think we have a lot of work to do.
The SBC boasts of some 5,000 missionaries under NAMB and some 5,000 under the IMB; thousands under other Baptist and other missions boards.
Yes, these men and women are being effective, but are all Christians doing what we can to present Christ to a lost and dying world.

Some on this board will only post in the political section - complaining its the fault of the Democrats and/or the Republicans. Others are only concerned about the KJO, C-vs A, ect.

Each of these has their place, but initally our # 1 priority should be the simple plan of salvation. After that we should be making disciples

Some may say I am a liberal because I participle in our local council of churches (no, not associated with the NCC), our mission is serve our community physically and spiritually.

Bottom line: Its not what you do that counts, its what you don't do that doesn't count - Thats what counts!

    Overwhelming...

Excellent Post Salty...particularly your "bottom line". I have to admit that these kind of poll numbers are very overwhelming to me. My mind can barely comprehend them. It is also difficult if not impossible for me to comprehend that EVERY ONE OF THESE INDIVIDUAL PEOPLE (including ourselves) were "in view" in the mind and heart of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ in eternity past before the foundation of this present world upon which we currently dwell....and also at that point in "time" where He was hanging upon that cruel cross shedding His Precious Blood for us. My ability to comprehend that is...well...I can't. All I can do is accept it by faith...and I needed His help to even do that. I just pray that somehow, someway, it may be possible for me to have at least some small part in spreading and sharing the truth of His saving Gospel with some lost souls that He may be able, by His Spirit, to use that to reach somebody with the truth and "tip the scales" (so to speak) in the saved/lost %age. "It is NOT His will that ANY should perish.....".

By the way...welcome IceAndFire1328...and thanks for starting out with such a though-provoking topic.

When I was at BJU (please, this isn't about whether BJU is good or bad), Dr. Bob Jones III would do this thing with the students in chapel, where he would say "The most sobering reality in the world today, is that--" and the student body would reply "-people are dying and going to Hell today."

You are correct that we do not and can not know the percentage. I wish we could, and that we could see if the percentage changes from day to day.

One thing to remember is that we can not do anything about it by ourselves, in our own strength. We can only affect the situation by allowing God to work through us, those of us who have been saved by Him already.

If we live a day in our own strength, count that day for the devil. We are the best vessel for God's use when we are humbly submitted to His will, and are immersed in prayer and the Word.

When I read your original post, I doubted whether even 7% of the souls that die each day go to Heaven. They may. I heard recently that there are 120 million professing believers in China now. How this is exactly known, I cannot say. . . . but I do know that in China, it is very rare for someone to profess Christ without truly accepting Him, as can so often happen here in the US.

I believe in the idea of an age of accountability, so in my understanding, all the unborn dead (naturally or aggressively terminated) as well as newborns and probably even toddlers and young children who have not yet gained the age of comprehension of their sins and accountability to God, would make up a certain percentage of the souls who fly to God each day.

I am thankful for the many missionaries and evangelists sharing the Gospel all over the globe, but also for the national pastors and lay people who are also spreading the Good News too. I am so glad to see native peoples saved under the preaching of missionaries, now preaching and evangelizing their own people, and incredibly, even other people groups. This is victory!

Now the greatest stronghold of the enemy seems to be the moslem world. It is probably the hardest area to crack into. The people are in desperate need of salvation.

One to one evangelism is like addition and making disciples is like multiplication. Evangelism is like making babies and discipleship is like making mature adults. While it takes longer to make adults they are mature enough to make more adults who make adults. Babies are dependent on their mother for nourishment. Jesus taught to make disciples and he showed how it is to be done. That method was practiced in Judaism long before Jesus came to earth.

I would like to witness to you all about the Jesus I know.

If I had a little god like you all do I would just give up and go home... Thankfully I do not.

"And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

Notice the angel doesn't say He might save some people from their sins if you all will just go out and witness. But that is basically your misinterpretation.

"And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it."

Notice Jesus didn't say I might build my church if you guys and the gates of Hades will help. Again, that is basically your misinterpretation.

Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”

Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

Unbelievers talk like you all do "What must we do, that we may work the works of God." However Jesus attributes belief to the work of God just like He always does.

"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Whomever God means to save, He saves, whether it is a whole city, like Ninevah, where BTW Jonah doesn't even preach "the gospel", he just went and told them destruction was coming and went outside the city to watch, or the Ethiopian Eunuch who He sends Philip to.

"For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.

This is all in perfect agreement with the OT as well. Notice the idea that Jesus is trying miserably to save everyone and needing your cooperation is absent in the OT also. Notice it says over and over "He shall" not He would if only people would obey Him.

Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand. He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities.

Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, because He poured out His soul unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

My hope and admonition to you is that you would obey the commandment of God in the NT. If you do your are one of God's dearly beloved elect children, if not then you are not and destined for wrath. These are the words of God, not man.

"Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”

Best of all I have peace knowing that Jesus will save His people from their sins and has already told us that He is in charge of the two responses to His everlasting Gospel.

What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not! For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.” Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.

You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?” But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?

What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory, even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

As He says also in Hosea:

“I will call them My people, who were not My people, and her beloved, who was not beloved.”

“And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ there they shall be called sons of the living God.”

Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel:

“Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, the remnant will be saved. For He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth.”

    And as Isaiah said before:

“Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we would have become like Sodom, and we would have been made like Gomorrah.”

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”

Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.
