I have one. It's a very nice Bible. The notes are good and the quality is good too. It has a dictionary in the back of archaic words, which is nice. I would recommend it (if my opinion means anything..lol).

Are the notes similair to the Niv study bible? Glanced thru them in store, seemed to be more of a "general" view, not a specific view?

I don't know. I've never read the NIV study notes.

Hi Amy G, what do your study notes say about Mark 16:9-20, John 7:53-8:11, and 1 John 5:7-8. If these notes cast a shadow over these additions to the text, I am pretty sure no KJVO acolyte would like the notes.

On a less picked over topic, I see something like 290 word studies are included. Perhaps you could list four or five of the New Testament words studied, and comment on how useful, or not, those word studies are.

Van, I don't know about the word studies. I don't see that in my volume. It has a list of "the Kings English" and definitions. Is that what you mean?

I'll get back to you on the rest of your question in a bit.

So far haven't found out a couple of things that should have a bearing on this Bible.

    (1) What have they used for the basis of the KJB scripture text?
    (2) Are the study notes the ones from the HCSB, just tweaked a bit, to fit the KJB? Or are they written from scratch for the Homan KJB Study Bible? There should be considerable differences.

The reason why the second question is important resides here. I have a KJV Study Bible, produced by Zondervan. Buried about 18 pages deep in the introductionary materials is this comment. Quotes from that hardcopy.

So, in essence I have a KJV Study Bible, scripture based on the Cambridge Paragraph Bible of 1873 with study notes based on the NIV. Makes for strange bedfellows considering the core issue of manuscript choice differences between the KJB and the NIV. With translation approach diffrences layered on top of that.

Begs the question.... has Lifeway and publisher done the same thing with regards to the HCSB and their KJV Study Bibles?

Here's a blurb to retailers about the Holman KJV Study Bible from the publisher.
And, just an additional link I found, while doing a search. May be useful to someone for comparative purposes. -- sponsored by Lifeway that has the HCSB scriptures & study notes. http://www.mystudybible.com/

Re Mark: Notes say that the verses are not in the oldest ms and it is dangerous to make doctrine out of them.

Re John: Notes say it is doubtful that the account is part of John's original gospel. It is not found in the oldest copies and where it does occur in later ms it is found in various places other than in John 7:53-8:11.

Re 1 John: Notes say vs 7 and 8 are missing from nearly all Greek ms.

Thanks Amy G, I rechecked my info on the word studies, and found I was mistaken. The HCSB notes are advertized as having 290 word studies, but in the list of study material in the Holman KJV study bible, no word studies are listed.

Since many KJVO/P folks claim it is not corrupted in the slightest, they probably would not accept the study notes like in your bible.

I guess I am going to have to go to a book store to leaf through a HCSB to find out about their word studies. :(

I have a copy of the Holman KJV Study Bible (HKJVSB).

Its KJV text is based mainly on what would be considered a typical Cambridge text. However, it does have a few different or unique renderings that so far I have found only in KJV editions printed after 2000 A. D.

    Genesis 5:3
and after his image (EB) (JVIPB) (2008 Pilot) (2010 BRO) (APB) (2011 Barbour) (2011 PJB) (2012 F-S) (HKJVSB)
after his image (1769 Oxford, SRB) [1769 Cambridge, DKJB]

    Genesis 29:33
    heard I (EB) (JVIPB) (2008 Pilot) (APB) (2010 BRO) (2011 Barbour) (2011 PJB) (2012 F-S) (HKJVSB)
heard that I (1769 Oxford, SRB) [1769 Cambridge, DKJB]

    Leviticus 24:11
of the Lord {1795 London} (EB) (2011 PJB)
of the Lord (2008 Pilot) (JVIPB) (2010 BRO) (APB) (2012 F-S) (HKJVSB)
    of the LORD (2011 WB)
of the LORD (1769 Oxford, SRB) [1769 Cambridge, DKJB]

    Deuteronomy 2:11

call them (1769 Oxford, SRB) [1769 Cambridge, DKJB]

    Joshua 7:2

What is your opinion of the notes within that bible?

Have you heard of the Modern version KJV to come out 2014, by Charisma press?
