We see itas being saved by Grace alone, thru faith alone, how does repentance factor in?

Have you ever studied the word repentance and its uses in scripture?

Repentance and faith are two sides of the same coin. Faith entails repentance. I put my faith in Christ so I stop putting my faith in idols.

Think where the confusion come in is that we seem to have 3 main views on this! More akin to Free Grace view

view 1 is that it does NOT factor in at all, as we are saved thru faith alone
view 2 is that it factors in by the truth that a sinner must agree with God that he is a sinner and only jesus can save Him, so a repentance from trying to save ourselves, and trusting in Christ alone to save us! My position!

View 3 is that a sinner must repent forsale all known sin when receiving jesus, so more akin to a lordship view!

Bingo! When one turns to Christ they are simultaneously turning from self, which is the very definition of repentance, to turn.

Being saved by faith alone is repentance, so #1 is a false dichotomy. View 2 and 1 are intertwined. View 3 is Lordship Salvation.

17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near. Matt. 4:17

The first public words preached by Jesus. Have to think that was with purpose.

That is not the Lordship view. That, however is a misrepresenation of the Lordship view.

Did not say was that view, but that it was a'sort" of that view, akin to it!

I have had someone who espoused that view state that the person needs to forsake/repent of all known sin before oming to Jesus, as that act shows true repentance!

Sounds like something you would read in The Gospel According To Jesus.

Here's a verse where repentance is mentioned:
    II Tim 2:25
    Repentance, like faith, is a gift of God.;

Went to church with a guy years ago who believed if a person did not repent with weeping when they were saved, they weren't really saved. He would ask someone to give their testimony, and if it didn't include repentance with weeping, he concluded they were unsaved and repeatedly urge them to come to Christ with weeping. Several people left because of it.

Other than that, he was a really solid Christian.

Must a sinner repent In order to get saved By the lord?

    YES!
    Acts 3:19
    Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

    Acts 17:30
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

    Acts 11:18
When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

    Acts 20:21
Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

    This is......

....of course a trick question?? In the old Lone, Ranger shows; Tonto was sent into town for grub and to scout out the town. The old joke was he always got beat up; captured; or locked up in jail.

Well, I learned one thing from being a Lone Ranger fan club member....don't get sucker punched or sucked into a trap! This is a trap waiting to swallow up the eager responder.

No siree, Kemosabe and Tonto will ride around this one and live to fight another day! Have fun folks....

Up until the day the Lord saved me when I was nine years old, I had heard a bunch of Sunday School lessons, a bunch of sermons, a bunch of invitations, been to a bunch of revivals. But up until that day, not once did I ever give any thought to my spiritual condition.

But that Sunday morning, the Lord opened my eyes and understanding. Suddenly, all those sermons on Hell applied to me. All those sermons about sin hit me between the eyes. Coming under Holy Spirit conviction scared the living daylights out of me.

The Lord showed me for the first time that I was a sinner, and through the preaching I had heard, applied the consequences of my sin to me. But once I came under conviction, I saw my sin the same way God did, and I hated it.

That's also when I remembered those exhortations, "Repent.! Confess Christ as Lord! Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved!"

Yes, the command from God is to repent and believe. Yes, it is a response we make to those commands.

But it is God the Holy Spirit who opened my eyes to my sin; it was the Holy Spirit who convicted me of my sin; it was the Lord Jesus who drew me to repentance and faith, who granted repentance to me and created faith in me.

I didn't realize as a 9-year-old everything that God was doing when he saved me. But looking back, I can see it. This is true salvation by grace.

For a Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death, 11 Cor 7:10
