fundamentalist run amok?

    I've heard people comment two things lately that concern me.

    One is that if we were to actually somehow discover and possess the original autographs of the Bible and it was different from the KJV, they would reject the original autographs.

    The other is that if it could be scripturally proven this or that fundamentalist bit of doctrine is wrong, they would still hold to it.

    Isn't that completely missing the point of what a fundamentalist is, or am I looking at it crooked?

    Neither one of those makes anyone a fundamentalist. It does make them idiots.

    I am sure that you might find 1 or 2 like that. But, for the most part, you are making a generalization from those few about a large group of people who love the Lord and attempt to glorify Him.

    Yes, you are talking about a few nut cases.

    Now about the scientific side of things, science does not necessarily prove anything absolutely. If the Bible disagrees with science, so-called, then either the science is improperly conducted, or the Bible is misunderstood. Either is very possible, and happens frequently.

    Keep the jackets on gentlemen, no need to fight!

    I made no generalizations at all. I just said I had run into some folks making those statements.

    Been on the Lord's good earth a great many years and lived all over the country. Those are not ideas I ever ran across before.

    So my question remains: do we or don't we have a problem of some folks misunderstanding what it means to be a fundamentalist?

    I'm sure we do. Since I am one, I take it very seriously when people put out false ideas about what a fundamentalist is, or what one should be.

    No sir, that is not what you did.You presented a picture of some behavior and tied it to fundamentalists with a broad brush.


    The so called question does not follow the picture you painted.

    Revmitchell, I could say I am hungry for a Hershey bar and you would think I said all women are gluttons for chocolate and hence it proves Eve is the mother of all sin.

    I re read my post. I said I heard people saying it. I did. I nowhere said how many people.

    If you consider fighting the mark of a true fundamentalist, I guess you can take a bow. I consider holding to the truth to be the true mark of a fundamentalist.

    You don't have to say how many. If you paint a picture and relate it to "a fundamentalist" but make no specifics about who what or when then you have painted with a broad brush.

    Now if that was not your intention then just man up and admit you could have worded it better.

    A fundamentalist, theoretically, makes the fundamental doctrines of the Bible his highest priority of teaching, preaching, and living before God. Someone who is not a fundamentalist, goes out on a limb or makes something that is not truly the most important thing, more important than it is. So if people were truly doing what you said they were doing, they technically aren't fundamentalists anyway.
