    I have a good friend, may be my best who has become addicted to Day Star & TBN. We are both members of the same Southern Baptist Church and exposed to Sound Biblical Doctrine. Elmer's (pseudo name) wife pasted away this past year after being bedridden for 12 years with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. He was out of fellowship with the body except when food was brought by members of our SS Class. This could
    be a reason or excuse for watching 24/7 Religious TV. He is of the belief that the "Sign Gifts"are still active presently although he did not exercise them during his wife's illness. My biggest concern is his leaning toward
    the Prosperity Gospel. I was trying to show him scripture today supporting the teaching that the sign gifts passed on with the demise of the Apostles in the 1st century. Other then 1 Cor 13: 10-13 I could think of no other scripture. Any additional scripture passages will be appreciated. He has oft quoted Jn 16: 23-24.

    There is no other scripture. It is a bad argument to make that we should not participate in the charismatic doctrine because they have stopped. The argument for that is weak at best.

    The best approach is to address the true nature of the gifts. What goes on in churches today is contrary to the true nature of the gifts.

    Seeing he's been watching TBN all you have to do is lay your hands on his head, yell something that sounds like BABYWANTSASUBARU - HONDA! followed by, "Spirit of deception, come out of this man." Give him a big shove and knock him to the floor. :smilewinkgrin: If it works you could get your own TBN show.

    If he is a believer what are you worried about. He cannot lose his salvation.

    He can't lose his salvation, but it's still sad to see a friend addicted to any kind of rot-gut. You want to help. If he's a believer, you want to see him have a life that is productive for the Lord.

    true, but most of the charasmatic doctrine/theology is either full of errors/misapplication, or incase of WoF/prosperity, outright heresies!

    So he would be entertianing doctrines of demons!

    Show him in the Bible that gifts to heal/miracles were with the Apostles, and that to be gifted today, an Apostle would HAVE to be one who either walked with jesus, or saw the risen jesus!

    Also, look at hebrews hall of fame Chapter 11, and let him see that many saints suffered badly, in the Will of God!

    Also, referencing for him where paul addresses the 'supersiants" who claime dto have this power/prosperity etc, yet all the Apsotles gave up all tehy owned, followed christ, suffered hoorible things!

    Finally, get a book called A Different Gospel, By DR McConnell, as he was schooled at oral roberts, is a Charasmatic himself, but VERY against the teaching of both WoF/prosperity, and gives the background to where their theology REALLy came from!

    Hope that helps!

    There are many verses that teach this.The Apostles were unique.
    2cor12
    12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.

    3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

    4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

    1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

    2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

    3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:

    Acts4:33,
    33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
    5:12,
    12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.
    14:3
    3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
    jn14
    25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

    26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
    jn15
    26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

    27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
    jn16
    12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

    13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

    These promises were only given to the Apostles here...not all Christians.

    4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

    5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

    6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

    jude3
    3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

    Eph2
    20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

    Were ever you go posted...

    You are 100% correct, in that he can not lose his salvation. No christian can.

    But that is not the topic.

    The issue is that he is going to be ROBBED by the ((THIEVES)) who are trying to ROB HIM by way of the "seed-faith" SCAM.

    (Its always good to be aware of the topic before posting.)

    I'd answer: I believe our Lord gives knowledge to believers, as well as unlimited love, whatever you ask He will answer in His wisdom - according to His wishes and what He thinks is best. I don't believe it right to think we pull His strings as if we are told we get what we want, like He is some kind of puppet, which is what those on TBN seem to be to teaching.
