Straight forward question. Do you drink? If so, do you do it in moderation, and do how do you reckon it with the Word?

I am putting a poll on this so those who want to remain anonymous, can do just that!

Good poll to see how the percentages stack up among professing Baptists.

Hopefully, since you did keep it anonymous, everyone will vote according to their actual viewpoint, whether they chose to defend/explain or don't.

    My choice is not there.

I do not drink alcohol at all (personal conviction), but I also believe that partaking in moderation (for those who choose to do so) is not a sin .

I drink and enjoy it. Btw...what's the difference between a mixed drink and a coktail?

POLISH wotka & Guinness are my drinks of choice. Tempered by occasional single malt Scotch.:love2::thumbsup:

    I don't, for a couple of reasons.

The first is that, because I hold a position of authority in the church, people are watching me and my use of alcohol, even if it's in moderation or otherwise innocent, could cause somebody to stumble.

The second reason is that we have a young man living with us who is overcoming an addiction to alcohol and I don't want to jeopardize all his hard work.

The third is that, about three years ago, I discovered that beer gave me really bad acid reflux and so I couldn't drink it even if I wanted to.

All that having been said, while I don't drink alcohol, I don't think it's a sin, just unwise.

Didn't see Nyquil as an option. I have been known to buy a bottle every now and then.

No, I don't drink and I don't have any confidence in people that does. There is no way anyone can drink in moderation and not become addicted after so many drinks of moderation. Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned ? Can one go upon hot coals and his feet not be burned ? Prov 6:27-28

I do not drink. I really do not like the taste of alcohol.

Salzer said, "No, I don't drink and I don't have any confidence in people that does. There is no way anyone can drink in moderation and not become addicted after so many drinks of moderation."

When I was young I probably would have agreed with you. However, after my experiences living in Prague I have to respectfully disagree. I know quite a number of Baptist in Europe who drink moderately, say a glass of wine with a meal or a beer. They have done this most of their lives. I must say that most Europeans have a very different attitude toward alcohol than Americans. They see a glass of wine or beer simply as a drink [like we look at water] to go with the meal.

At the Baptist seminary in Prague they use wine at the Lord's Supper. They call it Baptist Wine as it comes from the vineyards that were restored by German Baptists in Mikulov in Moravia, now southeastern Czech Republic. The German Baptists had the reputation of being excellent vineyard workers and were invited to come and restore the vineyards in the CR after those vineyards had been destroyed in a was.

I drink alcohol about 2-3 times a year because that's how often the mood strikes. And then it's only 1 wine cooler, or perhaps a coconut rum and coke. I don't enjoy drinking anything more than that because I'm a firm believer in moderation. I've been like that since my dad gave me a 4pk of wine coolers on my 14th birthday. (my brothers all got guns... I think I got jipped) My parents set a supreme example of moderation for me and my 5 siblings early on in life, and I believe it is because of that that alcohol has never been an issue for any of us in our adult lives. I plan on continuing that example for my children.

Thats a completely false statement. I am 56, have drank in moderation (sometimes to excess) & I am not an addict. I can walk away from it at any time i want to. It is a choice & not an addiction (for everyone)

I'm not a big fan of the fruity drinks, mixed drinks and most wine. I would rather have a good micro brew. I have no problem with moderation, its not exactly rocket science

when I was a teenager my godly mother with tears in her eyes ask me to never follow in my fathers footsteps and drink alcohol. She has gone home to her reward but till this day I have kept the promise. It absolutely blows my mind to think a woman would want her children to drink. What if one of them turns out to be a drunk after you have introduced it to them and gets in a car and run's over a innocent child, thanks a lot mom.

I won't even use that. I buy the non-alcohol containing versions . Likewise with mouthwash.

And if somebody cooks with alcohol, I won't eat it. Just no desire to smell it or taste it.
