Today I had a chat with a New Age guru whom told me all about the healing powers of music, and art, self thought, help, etc.. I did not use any of the Way of the Master methods as that would be a great way to lose my job, so I had to use a more tactful and listening approach. Perhaps my witnessing would be different on the job then on the streets due to context. On the job I need to witness by my example, by listening, and by the art of asking questions, etc.. Norm Geisler wrote a book on this of which I have. I believe that Lee Strobel, Ravi Zacharias, Josh McDowell, and many others would suggest this method in a job type atmosphere.

So what about you. How do you witness on the job? The Way of the Master does a great job of addressing sin directly, but I do not want to lose my job so one needs more tact in this context.

You are not paid to witness. You are paid to work.

I would state clearly to a fellow worker that we can talk at break, lunch, before or after work. Not during work.

Doesn't mean that I have to keep my mouth shut, there is no reason a person can't talk to them self, even preach to them self without addressing any one directly around them.

But if I was the owner, and saw the work being slowed or hindered by folks talking religion, I would at least warn them and at most dismiss all involved.

Why would anyone assume this? Insane comment, coming from my line of work (digital advertising, printing, and color managment).

I have all sorts of time while I'm monitoring machines, to talk to my co-workers, and I do discuss religion with select co-workers, with no loss of production.

I have worked there 10 years, and have always been near the top of the production list. And those who are on the top, aren't better or more experienced, they just run faster machines.

I think it may depend on the type of work one is involved in. In my line of work I also have lots of time to chat. But when I worked in the warehouse/shipping field I did not and work needed to be done.

You missed "and saw the work being slowed or hindered by folks talking religion..."

Because you missed that part of the sentence, your view of my post as insane is incorrect.

Though I may be truly insane.

My Bride thinks I have lost my head because I let her do all my thinking for me. :)

I am with you on this one. We are paid to work, to do a task, not witness or talk about any subject unrelated to the job and waste time. In essence, that is stealing to be paid while doing that.

The job I retired from, I as mentioned above, I was reponsible to the operation of mutiple machines that processed a product on the midnight shift. I did not merely monitor the machines. If they were running fine, then I was busy doing prevenative maintenance on ones not being used. Every minute was taken up, as that is what I was paid to do.

If one wants to witness and be paid, be a pastor.

If one is paid $29 an hour to monitor machines, that means sixty minutes. It does not mean monitor machines for 35 minutes, talk about religion for 10 minutes, 5 minutes at the coffee machine, and another 10 talking about shop politics.

    I didn't miss it, I highlighted it.

Your comments are completely dependent on someones line of work.

If one is paid 60 minutes to monitor a machine, then they had better monitor it for 60 minutes no matter what they're talking about during that time... :BangHead:

Yes, and part of my job is dealing with high dollar customers. If the customer wants to talk about sports after we get some of the color and graphics issues handled... guess what? I'm going to get paid to talk about sports.

I don't see anything wrong with talking on the job. You're not a robot and everyone talks on the job -- it's natural to do so as long as it is not abused. I'm glad you have someone to witness to who asks questions.

Back in College I had a Buddhist from Thailand bring me some religious propaganda to attempt to convert me. At that point I asked him about Christ and the whole thing took about a minute or so.

Next thing you know I was called to the office. It was reported that I was chasing him down aisles at work preaching to him -- from others not himself.

The boss asked why I would talk to him about Christ at work, no preaching &c. I then told him he shared some of his religion with me so I shared mine, and he allowed me to get the booklet he handed to me as proof right then and there. The boss then told me he was out of church and a Baptist, so I told him I would pray for him. Of course the guy from Thailand was never called to the office for preaching Buddha.
