I know the Name jesus is in our bibles-------but..........................

The name of the Christ in the originals was Jehoshua(Yehoshua)
Just as the Name of God was Jehovah(Yehovah)

The name Yehoshua means Salvation of Yehovah

The name Yehovah was taken out of our translations today and replaced with terms like Lord

The name Jesus--taken from the greek pagan culture was a name that meant---Hail Zeus or Praise Zeus

So how I ask then we got the translation in our bibles of today of the name Jesus and have we been offering praise to the Greek god Zeus instead of offering Praise to Yehovah God ?????

the ones going about and working in the name of Jesus--have they been doing the work in the name of Zeus ???

NO other name under Heaven where by men must be saved(Yehoshua) ??

where does that leave people who are saved by the name jesus ??

    Ok... hail Zeus... really?

Jesus is the anglicization of ιησους. And that is just the Greek version of the Hebrew Yehoshua.

Now a better question is, where did the term Yehoshua originate? I believe that since Joshua's original was simply Hoshea son of Nun, that Moses added the deity of the Jews to the beginning of his name to indicate authority just as Egyptian Pharaohs would do the same.

why could not our translators just leave the original names in our bibles

    Lord--Yehovah
    Christ-Yehoshua

why so many word changes--we can pronounce and understand the original names and words ???

why did they take it among theirselves to do this to the texts ???

Could this come under the texts of taking away and adding unto ??

Another foolish thread started by HW, I see.

Why in the world would God tell Mary and Joseph to name His Son a name that pointed praise to a pagan deity?

    Oh, that's right... He wouldn't.

The claim that Jesus's name came from the Sacred Name cult. Funny, they claim the name of Jesus is sacred, but ascribe it to pagan gods.

"This name of the true Messiah,
    Jahshuwah (Jehoshua), being Hebrew,
was objectionable to the Greeks and
Romans, who hated the Judeans (Jews),
and so it was deleted from the records,
and a new name inserted. Jahshuwah
(Jehoshua) was thus replaced by Ie-Sous
(hail Zeus), now known to us as Jesus."

We actually do not have certainty how to pronounce YHWH. Yehovah is probably not close. Yahweh is certainly closer for many reasons.

And which version of Jesus should we use? The Greek version, Aramaic, or Hebrew... they are all different. His momma probably called him Yeshua. For typology purposes, Yehoshua would suit. Yet in the GNT, we have Iesous. Woops.

    A.B Traina is wrong.

As I said, why would God give His Son a name that pointed to worshiping a pagan deity?

"In the 1611 KJ New Testatment
    the name Yahshua (Yehoshua) appeared
    originally wherever the Messiah was
    spoken of. Yehoshua means Yehovah's
    (Jehovah's) Salvation. Later the
Messiah's name was replaced with Iesus
(Greek) which later in the 1600's it
became Jesus starting with the new
English letter "J" which was introduced
at that time. Further, the Greek "Iesus"
comes from the name Zeus, the ruling God
    in the Greek pantheon."

"‘Jesus’ is a transliteration of a Latin
    name Ioesus, pronounced heysus -
    which means nothing in Hebrew,
but in Latin it means ‘Hail Zeus’.
    If Yahshua’s name had been
    transliterated into our language,
it would have been closer to Joshua
    (or Jehoshua).."

Jesus. That was a name given to him
by the early church many years after
His death. They wanted to remove any
    Jewishness from the new church.
They eliminated His Jewish name and
blended the name of Zeus into the
Christian church to make it comfortable
for all those who previously worshipped
the Greek and Roman gods. It made it
easier for the pagans to become Christians.
Since Zeus was the top god of their experience,
attaching the name Ioesus to Yahshua gave
Him top priority in the worship hierarchy."

The name Jesus is NOT a derivative
of YHWH (Jehovah). There is great cause
for alarm when this hybrid Greek name
is being plied onto Messiah because
not only is it NOT the sanctified given name
of Yeshua (Jehoshua) but prophetic and
sanctified unity within the Word of YHWH is lost!
    Early Christo-Pagans syncretized Greek culture
into Greek Christianity, which "smoothed" the
way for Christo-Paganism to become the
    "state" religion."

So you just monologue... no dialogue or conversation?

I explained the obvious. יהושע was translated ιησους in the Greek OT (Pre-Christian mind you). That is anglicized into Jesus. There is not pagan intent. The Greek name was used before Jesus was even born. Your argument is ridiculous!

would you think it strange that God would give His Son a name that could be related back to a Greek pagan God named Zeus ??

When Yeshua means The Salvation of Yahweh

It is always difficult to correct errors that we have adopted as truth. Who did I put my trust in? Jesus. What is the name of the Father? Yahweh. Many bibles translate the name of God (YHWH) as LORD all in caps. So in about 6000 cases, the name is changed by translators.

Some modern translations are translating YHWH as Yahweh, but none of the major sellers has changed the name of Jesus. As pointed out before, many think when Mary called to her oldest child, it sounded like Yeshua. But since I am about 70, I think we should wait about 15 more years before we try to fix what is not broken. :)

More monologue. You don't even try to reply to what I write.

You are assuming so much w/ the whole Zeus thing. The fact that Iesous was translated for Joshua in the OT 200-400 years before Jesus was born makes this conspiracy theory asinine.

And the fact that you think YHWH is pronounced Jehovah shows your inadequacy to discuss these matters critically.

wasn't the letter J not until the 15 century--how could His name could have been Jesus ?

and I meant to put forth Yahweh instead of Jehovah in the other post.

Wasn't He the Son of God? How could His name give praise to another?

Anglicizing... simple enough. Many "y" and "i" sounds were turned into "J" sounds in English. Case and point... Indiana Jones: Last Crusade pointed out that the mispronunciation "Jehovah" begins with an "I" in Latin. But it got changed to a J sound in English via Anglicization. Same is true for many Hebrew and Greek words that began w/ an "I" in Greek or "Y" in Hebrew. In other words, we should pronounce Isaiah "Yeshayah" or Jeremiah as "Yeremiah". In Greek, John is Ioane. Pardon the crude transliteration. So you see how "I" and "Y" gets changed to J in English. So feel free to say Yesus. In Spanish it is pronounced Hey-soos.

Your entire argument is a bit ignorant of history as well as language. Ignorance in history in that the word existed hundreds of years before Jesus was born. Ignorance in language in that this happens when you transliterate from one language to a completely unrelated language like Hebrew to Greek. Since Greek has no "y" sounding letters, the best they could come up with was "i" sounding letters. So Yeshua was Greeked into Iesou (masculines typically end in an "s"). So it really is the same.
