With the overthrow of the Egyptian President by the army, strange alliances have formed. The radical Salafi Muslim groups, which are more radical than the Muslim Brotherhood which the former President represents, have allied themselves with the army. It would seem the more radical groups would be more antagonistic towards the army than the Muslim Brotherhood. It makes very little sense. Maybe it is another case of being more interested in power than standing up for what one believes in.

Either way, IMO, the United States should withdraw all support from Egypt, as none of these groups battling for power have anything in common with our country, and certainly not in our national interests. How much money will we as Americans spend to influence which degree of an enemy to our way of life gets into power?

At one time or another we supported each of these groups. That means at one time or another we opposed each of these groups and we wonder why they all hate us now.

Oh what a tangled web we've weaved.

To bad we ignored the founder's warnings against entangling alliances. But hey who wants to be called an isolationist, right?

    Right on brother!

Regardless of America's past, we need to put a stop to sending money and weapons to these people at once. Its not in our best interests or our allies'. And as a supporter of (the people) of Israel, I worry that it wont be too long before Egyptian tanks come rolling across the border. Right now I think Israel can take care of herself against any enemy, but if we keep supplying her enemies with weapons, how safe will she be? Plus we have an economic problem right here at home.

The government of the United States doesn't operate according to "our" interests. It operates according to the banker's and corporation's interests.

They make a lot of money supplying both sides with weapons. They don't care what we peons think about it.

The only time they want our input is when it comes time for us to vote for one of their bought off politicians. Democrat or republican makes no diffence they pretty much own them all.

Regardless of America's past? Isn't that just another way of saying let's not learn anything from history? No offense meant. : )

Years ago I used to think we could go to the people and, through reason, get them to adopt our western way of life. I'm older now and see that this was never going to happen. Today, I do not believe the people will ever adopt the American system of values and /or govt. Islam is so deeply ingrained in those people and it is both a religious AND a political philosophy.

Though there are some so-called moderates who have chosen to live in this country and kind of modernize and adopt our way of life, I don't think they really have embraced our values. If you pinned them down on the subject, I think the Muslim still believes that Americans are infidels and this is why they rarely if ever criticize radical jihadists.

Thus, to me, spending billions on Egypt, trying to get them to embrace a democratic form of govt is pure folly. It's a pipedream. Imo, that money would be better spent strengthening our own defenses and helping our true friends in the region...Israel. Israel has adopted a western style democratic form of govt, consistently provide intel to us and stands with us nearly always at the UN. We have no greater ally than Israel.

Egyptians never regarded themselves as Arabs, they prided themselves on the uniqueness of their cultural heritage. Certainly many are muslims but there were many jews and many christians....I wonder what happened?
