No. It is not required of us... Except through the commandments of pastors who are

    1. Ignorant that the tithe was abolished according to Ephesians 2
    2. Greedy of filthy lucre
    Or
    3. Neither of the above two, but don't want to break an unscriptural tradition.

Imo, Churches that teach a monetary tithe don't deserve any of my money at all. After all, they are already getting money through philosophy and vain deceit. (Whether that deceit is intentional or not)

For my regular giving to the church, yes I do. Additionally, I will give when led for other purposes. I don't tithe because it is required but I tithe because I feel that is the LEAST I can give in support of my church. So look at it more not as a tithe but that I give 10% of our income.

Your first option "Yes [up to ten percent" is an oxymoron. A tithe IS 10%, but as I have stated before the tithe is an OT law. However, 10% is a good benchmark.

Why do these polls on giving never include our situation, I.e. we do not believe in tithing, but we always give more than ten percent in offerings?

We used to give 10%, but it never sat right with me. I felt like I had to keep the law, and it was not done cheerfully, but under a self imposed compulsion. I struggle giving anything in today's church format that is more and more becoming a business. As we struggle financially, it doesn't sit well with me that the offering we give is mainly going to staff less than a handful of salaries and a facility...while discipleship, missions and meeting the needs of those in the church is expected above and beyond what is given. Every time I see a pie chart that has only a sliver for discipleship while over 3/4 going to salaries and a building, it bothers me. I'm more apt to give my time in today's church model.

It shows me that that person probably does not know how to handle money effectively.

I doubt that you or anyone on the BB has ever been as poor as I was in my early twenties, but my wife and I have always tithed ... not because it was a command, but because all I have has been given to me by the Lord. How could I not show my appreciation and show my love for my fellow Christians.

If anyone here claims that he or she "tithes" allegedly according to the Bible, that would be wrong. No one here "tithes" according to any definition found in the Bible. Indeed, it is impossible.

I never tithe because the scriptural way, under the new covenant is "free will" giving.

    Praise God

    Didn't Jesus endorse the tithe?
Luke 11:42, Matthew 23:23 and Luke 18:12. If fact, he said "you should do this without neglecting the weightier matters."

He rebuked the Pharisees, but did not rebuke them for tithing.

The Pharisees were tithing that which the Law required... Garden produce.

The Law was not for Gentiles, nor for the later Gentile Believers in Christ.

As others have said, there is no tithe today. If your pastor says you need to 'tithe' meaning give 10% of your income because otherwise you are "robbing God", you ought to have a chat with the pastor. However some pastors I know use the word unwisely just because people know 'tithe' means give. Most fail to realize that the OT tithe was abolished. That goes back to no theological education in the churches but that's another topic entirely....

Anyway. The wife and I give financially to the church and we also give our time. If I get a bonus at work at least 50% goes in as well.

Would add to that list proportional giving, as we may start at the 10 % figure, but some of us God expects to give MUCH more than that amount to, based upon His material blessings!
