Is it pride (in a sinful sense) to say that you are, e.g., proud of your child when he/she graduates from high school or college?

What about being proud of your own accomplishments, e.g., losing the weight your doctor said you should?

    Thoughts?

No, I don't believe that taking satisfaction in accomplishment is sinful, as long as we give the Lord the credit He's due. Without Him, what could we accomplish - according to scripture?

Wanting to do a good job at something and then carrying it through is a good thing. And the satisfaction we gain from that accomplishment is a good motivator. However, when we begin to take all the credit for ourselves - that (in my opinion) is when we begin to cross the line.

Having said that, I've been both successful in this line of thinking as well as guilty of pride at times.

I am a Tennesseean by birth, and most of us use"proud" when we really mean we are "pleased."

If God was a Southerner, he would have said, at Jesus baptism, "This is my beloved Son, of whom I'm real proud."

And we both remember country comedienne Minnie Pearl, whose opening line was always "How---dee! I'm just so proud to be here."
We Southerners know what she meant.
