If the SBC was looking for another name, they found it, Shiite Baptist Convention, suits very nicely.

Typical SBC, we don't our women saying nothing except where's the kitchen.

    Actually, from the article:

"... It's not clear whether Angela Thomas also attended First Baptist."

Evidently her column story was very hostile to the Church, it's likely she wasn't a member.

I can't shrug off this nagging suspicion that this could have been a setup from the gitgo.

    from the article
So the backstory is that the woman's husband, a staff member, was on the side of the openly gay church member. There is more to this then the SBC bashers want you to know.

    Also from the story:
This is not about keeping women in the kitchen or any such foolish charges. It's about an openly defiant staff member who let his wife take the heat for him.

Sounds like Mrs Thomas had an ax to grind. She is definitely open to doing so.

However, we must remember that ideas and words have meaning. She used inflammatory language that certainly would have an impact. The magistrate's comments are rather telling towards the end of the piece.

Church work is just like a lot of other organizations. Internal politics rules the day all too often.

If they were anything like Shiites, you'd be afraid to say this.

Despite the venom under your tongue, you touched on the fact that sodomy cannot be tolerated except where Feminism reigns.

I serve in a SBC church. It is a church that is small, united, and is an extension of my family. I have never known or detected any mistreatment of women. In fact, we just elected a pulpit committee of five. I came in sixth, but the church spoke and my wife was one of the top vote getters. I look at that as God's will. Brother Tom, who all of you know, was also elected. The point I am trying to make is the women in our church (after all, these are our spouses) are given the highest of respect and honor. I do not know about this particular church. Madisonville is a small town about 70 miles from where I live, but know nothing of the internal politics of the church.

One thing I think people forget is that every SBC church is autonomous. All it would take is for me to bring a proposal at the next business meeting to withdraw, and if I got a majority, we would cease to be members. When our local church disagrees with an issue with the SBC, we ignore it.

As far as the term "Shiite Baptist," it is very degrading. Maybe where this got started was in Iraq or Iran. It could be that an extreme Muslim sect has taken on the practice of pot lucks and 400 pound pastors.

It seems to me that we as Baptists in different denominations or subgroups would at least give the appearance of having some unity to a lost and dying world. After all, we are all Baptists because we believe this is the closest to what the Lord would have in a New Testament Church. At times, from my experience with the PCA, it appears the SBC and some of the Reformed Baptists are closer to Presbyterians than fellow Baptists of other stripes.

The deeper we get into things the more we see.

I am with you here. How often have men hid behind their wife to say something they felt they couldn't?
I can't speak for that church but my wife has sisters and some family members who claim to be Baptist and they would see nothing wrong with a gay or women being the pastor. They are so far to the left it is said. They have been taught tolerance and they are tolerant of everything but what is old or conservative.

Keep in mind this find city gave us the Happy Goodmans, so if you like them all is bad in Madisonville or Dawson Springs,Ky.
