    Indiana will be especially hard hit by the war on coal. Unable to get cap and trade through Congress, the President has decided to impose his orders through the EPA. Indiana radio commentator Greg Garrison, former Indianapolis prosecutor who convicted Mike Tyson of rape, says that Hoosier electric rates could increase by 25%. Needless to say, that would lead to an economic collapse. Indiana is not the only state that will be hard-hit economically.

    America is being de industrialized. Has been for a long time now. Globalization through free trade treaties. Public Private Partnerships and Agenda 21.

    It was all set up by the Clintons and Bushes and is now being implimented under Obama. Globalists. They sure done a number on us huh?

    Divide and conquer! All they had to do was keep the left and right busy arguing amongst themselves till they got it all in place and looted the treasury. Now they can collapse the economy and control us with the massive militarized polce state they all put together piece by piece right under our noses as we cheered them on.

    Hello, BiR! I couldn't agree with you more. The GOP is so disorganized with no leader. I think that the coal industry has decided to try and settle this first behind closed doors. It is questionable if the EPA has the right to set carbon emissions by fiat, don't you agree?

    During the last presidential campaign, Obama promised Ohio that he supported coal-fired power plants.

    Even if the House were able to pass something, it would die in the Senate. And Obama would probably veto everything anyway.

    I am not sure how many states mine coal. Southern Indiana has a 300 year supply and we are not even a big coal state. We have cheap electricity and now we are a right to work state which keeps Indiana sputtering along to a certain extent in spite of a massive state government.

    Nor am I sure how many states depend primarily upon coal-fired electric plants.

    I am guessing that the coal industry will seek an injunction against the EPA in the fall if they actually issue new guidelines.

    BiR, what do you think should be done to stop this anticipated damage to our economy?

    Kentucky Educational Television (KET) has posted online a list of the major coal states. They are: Montana, Illinois, Wyoming, West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Colorado, Texas, and Indiana. KET says that coal is mined in 27 states and found in other states.

    The American Coal Council says:

    We simply cannot afford to decrease our ability to produce cheap electricity with coal, which God has abundantly blessed us with. Our economy is too weak. It is said that we have 23,000,000 people unemployed, underemployed or not employed fulltime.

    Here in Alabama----I don't have the news reports----but---I find it interesting that---the nationals have shut down a rather large coal field in the Tuscaloosa region----and that there are several fossil fuel generating plants being converted from coal to natural gas burns!!

    blackbird, I didn t realize this. Probably led to massive layoffs too and you know we are desperate for jobs here.

    I've read that we have about 27% of the worlds coal supply, 1 1/2 times more than Russia who comes in 2nd. Our reserves should last us another 250 years. Alaska is said to hold more coal that all the lower 48 combined.

    Converting coal to liquid fuels would lessen our dependence on foreign oil. CLT gasifies or liquefied coal that can be used as a substitute for vehicles.

    We ought to encourage retrofitting existing plants with Carbon Capture and Sequestration technology by giving them a tax credit as incentive.

    We need to stop shutting down existing coal plants and kick production into high gear.

    Furthermore giving tax free 'prizes' for major new innovations in using clean coal would be another incentive.

    (I wish they'd find a way to make kudzu pay off. I got tons of it I could sell em).

    Hey - hope all is well. Sorry: I don't log onto the BB as much as I used to. I have way too much going on here in Richmond.

    The GOP has never really been a big supporter of the coal industry. They ARE - as a matter of fact - supporters of the oil industry, which does compete in some ways (though not really). Then of course there is Mr. Boone Pickens with his big plan for America. But that of course will benefit him more than us, as he has vast control in the natural gas industry.

    Yes, and don't get me started on that.

    Unless, of course, there is a benefit for General Electric in some form or fashion, huh?

    That is the part that angers me the most. We have an endless supply of coal, and we have the technology to burn it cleaner than in the past. And yet, there are coal-fired power plants closing.

    I wonder what would happen if they did.

    Wish I knew the answer to that question.
