Some never cease to amaze me. In gentleness I challenge the use of profanity that someone whom claims Christ often makes on Facebook. So he rewards me by unfriending me. One word for this kind of behavior INSECURITY. I do not generally unfriend someone because they challenge me, and if I regularly used profanity online and then claimed Christ I'd expect people to challenge me!

So does FB advocate self-worship? Many think the whole world revolves around them, and that they are a celebrity. I think this way at times, and if a believer thinks like this, what of unbelievers, false converts, and immature christians?

I had a FB friend de-friend me because she was so liberal - uh let me put it this way, she probally thought Obama was too conservative.

Normally, I will only defriend someone for excessive cussing and/or trying to get me to play all those stupid games.

I have no problem being friends with extreme opposites - as long as we can agree to disagree.
Who knows, we just might learn something from each other.

It's a tool, just like many other things. It all amounts to what one puts into or takes away from it.

One of the challenges with this, like any social media, is that it can be doorway to exacerbating underlying conditions of narcissism and idolatry.

I don't use Facebook because I think its stupid. Doesn't make sense to me and I don't want anyone writing on my walls anyways...but seriously, I don't like it.

It cracks me up that my adult kids have 700+ friends each. There's no way they know that many people. I have 150-ish high school, college, work, family, locals and people I go to church with friends.

I don't accept people that I don't have anything in common with. For example, the person that used to sit in front of me in math that wasn't a friend even when we went to school, or the person that was my dad's friend from years ago.

I have deleted most of the potty mouths from my friends list. I delete those that say they are Christians out one side of their mouth and share their horoscopes out the other.

The whole purpose of Facebook and MYspace were that they would allow the individuals to be stars.

That's why they are so popular. They are all about self-worship as are most things in this life. These guys just figured out a way to capitalize off our love of self.

They also can be used as a evangelism tool. But yes all too much are they all about self-worship and those that are nice to my face, end up being jerks online.

Why??? If I don't know you, I'm not friending you. Yes, some of my friends are online friends but if I don't know them, I deny the friend request. No need to have strangers on my private wall!!

As for the original question, yes, it can advocate self-worship. I see a lot of that with the teens posting "selfies" all the time. I don't have many pictures of me because honestly, it's not really about me. :) I like to keep up with other people and have Facebook more for that reason than anything else.

I look at Facebook as a tool to keep in touch with family, high school and college friends, and former military friends. I guess it is like anything else, it is a tool that is neither good or evil, but some can make it evil.

My wife and I started on Facebook to monitor the kids in high school, then college. I get on there about once a month.

You are wise my friend. Perhaps my street preaching and other ventures on the web have gotten me attention and so people desire to be my friend. Once I had to block someone because he seemed obsessed with me and kept on begging and begging me to go to his country and preach. I turned him down because it was in a Muslim country and they would no doubt have cut off my head if I showed up in that country. I am quite vocal and the Muslims woud not like having me around. I am better off doing work with my head on in America.

I use FB to reach the lost

I currently have a huge group, and due to needs, I have started four additional pages (born-again resources, chronic diseases, born-again pet parents, and prayer, praise and testimony) to meet the needs of those I am coming across on FB. It is not a self-worship, ego thing! It is a full-fledge ministry, and we even have a world-wide day of prayer going strong!

Everything that man can think of can be used for both bad and good. I, along with a ton of other believers have found that God is using FB to reach a world of folks that need Jesus; need prayer; need encouragement; need fellowship; and need to know more about Jesus!

It is what it is, and for me, FB is a tool in cyber space that is not tapped out by any means. There is a lot of room for more ministries to do more than boast about their accomplishments; show off their buildings; and brag about their congregation size.

FB is prime for the harvest, and there is a great need for many more labors to jump in and use this cyber space platform to lift up Jesus in order to lift up His people! I see FB as a form of "street preaching" or, "church in the park!" :praying:

You admitted that you've previously put me on "ignore" because you didn't like what I posted, without telling me what it was you didn't like or giving me a chance to explain or make things right. And now you complain when someone on Facebook treats you the same way???

Facebook is like any other tool; it has the propensity to be used for selfishness. I've unfriended family members because of language and unsavory pictures, and I told them why I did it. It can be used for furthering the gospel. If someone unfriends you because of the gospel you preach, then I guess they hate you for the gospel's sake, and maybe you should just let them go like Jesus let the rich young ruler walk away.

I never thought of Facebook in the context of this thread. I have never disfriended someone, as I do not consider this a center piece of my life, much less than Baptist Board. Baptist Board does take up some time daily. The thing I like about Facebook is that it brings high school, college, military, past and present jobs, family and yes, even BB members all in one spot that can be sent a message if necessary.

Facebook is like any other technology. It is neutral on the evil-good scale. It is the user that establishes how the website is used.

It is like the internet in general. I can use it to look up answers to questions on BB, or use it for evil purposes.
