I just watched The O'Reilly Factor and Bill played a clip from him and Imus this morning talking about Christianity. He stated there is only one way to Heaven. He said you must lead a good life. WOW! I'm sure the Catholic church is ready to ordain him. :BangHead:

This is the way non saved people think. He is indicative of the tons of RC's I have to live with in Ny & NJ. Sad right.

    Then there are the atheists

I like watching Bill, but whenever he opens his mouth about Christianity or the bible he hasn't a clue. Notice he never gets any guest on who would actually tell him the truth about Jesus Christ, not that he would even listen though.

Youse Guys do understand how the average street RC goes about getting saved dont you? O'Reilly certainly does & is a big advocate for that type of (cheep Salvation). Why would he want to upset the apple cart.

    That isn't Catholic Teaching.
So you can see that Bill O'Reilly is not quite the Catholic Theologian you think he is. He obviously can't articulate his Faith properly. Faith leads to Obedience. Obedience doesn't bring about faith. Yet a Faith that is not acted on in obedience is dead. Yet without faith there is no salvation no matter how obedient one wishes to be. This is closer to Catholic teaching than Bill's tripe.

What about the catholics who post on this board, do they understand salvation is only through receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour? Born again?

If they do understand this, then why would they remain in the RCC if the RCC is preaching anyone who is a do gooder gets heaven apart from faith in Jesus Christ????

It's really confusing here, we have catholics that contend one must believe on Jesus Christ, and then we have the RCC officials publically stating the contrary, even the pope himself. Does anyone in the RCC really know what to believe?

Well, this is what I am talking about. You say one must believe, the pope says even the atheist can go to heaven! What's up?

Unfortunately this is how many who have true faith react toward those who do not display a true faith in God.

    Go figure.

Well, that's not exactly what the Pope said. What the Pope did say was
In Catholic Theology and High Protestant theology there is a difference between Redemption, Justification, and Salvation. To get to what I mean. The council of Trent stated in its Decree of Justification
in other words Christ's sacrificial death is sufficient to include all men. But that doesn't mean it is applied to all men. For the atonement to be applied to any man a turning away from sin in repentance and being born again is required. And then to be Justified it requires faith as Trent goes on to say:
and this Justification then leads to Salvation.

So the Pope was misconstrued about his meaning but that is because many people don't know how to make a distinction between the meanings of Redemption, Justification, and Salvation. Often people mistakenly lump them into the same meaning which they do not have.

No, the pope did not say even atheists can go to Heaven. He said even atheists have the ability to do good. It was discussed in a thread I guess you have not read. The media misunderstood what the pope was saying and I guess that is what you are basing you statement on..

YES there are people in the RCC who are solid Christians....just not Bill O'Reilly. Unfortunately that thinking is pervasive ---especially in the USA where the common walking around RC is just like the "Pin Head"... thats whats sad.
