For most people, Scranton isn't high on their lists of must-see places. Most people know the struggling Pennsylvania city, if at all, as the nondescript setting for the television comedy The Office.

But politicians can't get enough of the place.

This time, it's President Obama making an appearance, speaking at Lackawanna College on Friday as part of his college affordability tour. He's bringing along Vice President Joe Biden, a native son.

It's not their first visit. Like Rick's Cafe in Casablanca, sooner or later everybody in national politics comes to Scranton. The Clintons, Mitt Romney, John Kerry and George W. Bush have all made appearances in recent years.

Even if Scranton still had coal, Obama would not let them mine it for making electricity. Easterners are locked into the Democrat Party because they want a daddy government to take care of them.

Easterners huh.....so you know, you got plenty of liberals in the South & in California & Colorado. My Grandfather was a coal miner from Scranton, and a hard nose Republican & his political boy was Ronald Regan. The 2 NW counties of New Jersey I live in are completely controlled by the Republicans (who BTW are bigger tax & spend liberals as the democrats towards NYC)

Well, I am old enough to remember when Pennsylvania was a Republican state but not lately. My dad was born in Pittsburg but I was born in north central Indiana, a highly industrial area once upon a time. I would be very happy to see the Eastern Republicans grow strong again but I don't support Gov. Chris Christie for President but I am leaning toward Rick Perry or Ted Cruz. Having lived out west where men are men and women are glad of it, I never had to time or opportunity to visit the East and never been to New York City. Indianapolis used to be one of the best of the big cities but now traffic is a nightmare and the Democrats have taken over so write it off along with Gary, IN, and the dying city of South Bend, IN. Rural and small-town Hoosiers are still very nice.
