That's "pastor school," isn't it? I guess this question is a little off topic, but where from the bible do we get the idea to "import" our pastors from outside instead of raising up all our leaders from within the church?

Just a question, maybe for a separate thread.

The New Testament. Paul went away for three years of study, before engaging in his ministry. This is the model for the (3-4 year) Master of Divinity.

However, if you know a church that is equipped to teach Koine (Biblical) Greek, and Hebrew (something that the first century church didn't have to do, because they already knew both), as well as Biblical Hermeneutics (which wasn't critical at the time, because they already knew the cultural contexts of the various passages), then by all means, train them in the church. But they need to be trained in Biblical Exegesis and Hermeneutics, Greek, and Hebrew, just to bring them up to the point of a "normal guy" in New Testament times.

Thank you, Havensdad! What a complete and thoughtful answer! Maybe our Sunday School classes should be that way, designed to bring us to where "a normal person" in Jesus' time would be. Then we could raise up our own leaders. In the meantime it's good to know that there are those who are willing to learn so much for so long, to properly feed Jesus' flock.

I do alot of my schooling online, but I can't imagine doing all that work entirely online. I need the discipline and exchange of the classroom to keep me from drifting off. Thanks God for pastors!

I would LOVE IT if churches and parents would get that serious about the Bible, but unfortunately, it will probably never happen...we are sinful, lazy creatures by nature.

Imagine if children had a Seminary level education by the time they graduated high school...

I'll be dual-enrolled when I start high school next year (still scared to death about going to high school). By the time I graduate from high school I will have earned an Associate degree. But what to after that I don't know. If my parents were believers I would ask them to buy me books on Koine Greek, ancient Hebrew, hermeneutics, and history.

They already think I'm crazy for being more into books than boys, lol

There are other examples throughout Paul's epistles as well. It regularly talks about how Paul had certain people stay in certain cities to help lead the people in the area.
