Attracting people to church

    From the sermon by our pastor yesterday.

    Jesus said count the cost. That is not the way to attract people to church.

    Too often the sell job is attracting people to church by making following Christ easy. We sell Christianity as low cost and low risk.

    By any other terms, cheap grace. No responsibilities, no duties, no risk. Just believe and have fun at the pot luck suppers.

    So your saying its the pot luck dinners that draw them in? Cause I can put a roast in the crock pot with some potatoes & carrots .....so I never have to get up early, shave, get dressed & spend an hour or more listening to a boring sermon, that will probably put me back to sleep.

    In all honestly, going to church costs me allot!

    In a sence...... that could be a good reason :laugh:

    My mother in law comes up to visit from FLA & tells me that there all doing pot lucks down there..... her exact words were feed them & entertain them & they will come.

    If thats the drawing card..... no thanks!

    Pot luck, just believe, no need to change, no need to help others, no needs on your part other than just attend, give and believe.

    Cheap grace ... national Christian past time in the good old USA churches.

    Jesus said, "Count the costs."
    Tough teaching by Jesus if you read the entire passage in context.
