Throughout the entire Scriptures, only the righteous are saved.

The Christian is responsible for maintaining his imputed righteousness!

“... whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.” (Acts 10:35)

“… you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.” (1 John 2:29)

“... let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous” (1 John 3:7)

“… so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.” (Romans 6:19)

“Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey,
you are that one’s slaves whom you obey,
whether (slaves) of sin leading to (eternal) death,
OR (slaves) of obedience leading to righteousness?” (Romans 6:16)

Q: Why don't people see that ... the warnings (which are viewed as negative)
are somewhat hidden along side of the PPs (the positive promises)?

A: Too many people just cannot handle the powerful threats contained in the warnings!

However, Jesus to the rescue, as always ...

"But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess (repent of) our sins, He is faithful and just
to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us." (1 John 1:7-10)

Dunno, maybe this is the most important part of practicing righteousness: the sincere repentance of sin.

    A Merry Christmas to all ... + ... A Happy new Year!

    You're out there alright!

So have you ever lost your salvation? If so, how did you get it back? Did Jesus die again for you?

How does one know if they have lost their salvation?

Do you have assurance of your salvation?

What verse tells you how much good works and for howlong to keep salvation?

Does the blood of jesus pay for ALL sins that I will ever commit, or just pardoned my sins up to the time was saved, themn need to keep law right enough to keep saved then?

Doesn't hebrews 6 tell us, based upon his theology, that once lost, forever lost again?

I practice righteousness each time I walk and live by the spirit due the indwelling Spirit that promised to NEVER leave me. You keep trying to maintain your salvation, though, I'll keep on trusting in Him to maintain mine. An awfully big hand to be pried from, BTW.

    Congrats to you!
By walking and living by the Spirit means you are repenting
(sincerely confessing and abandoning) of your sins, right?

That is part of it, but that doesn't maintain anything. My sins were paid once for all. Do you believe you lose your salvation each and every time you sin?

Good question! What happens if we have any unconfessed sin, and we either die or jesus returns, as per our friend?

Then, what are the maintaining righteousness passages in the OP talking about?
“… you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.” (1 John 2:29)
“... let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous” (1 John 3:7)

If you are not actually practicing righteousness,
you are not born of Him and you're not righteous.
And if you are no longer righteous, you no longer have eternal life.

    Horse flux.

You show a vast misunderstanding of Scripture.

The point of 1 John is not about showing persons who were saved are now lost, but to show those who are truly saved and those who are not, and those who never were.

You are plainly a false teacher.

The righteousness I claim for my security is not my own righteousness - which is just filthy rags. Instead I claim Jesus' righteousness as my own - because He has clothed me in it.

It's refreshing when I see the Holy Spirit slip in a bit of truth without you even realizing what you said :tongue3:

[IMG]Thanks for the many hilarious responses, and I am eternally sad
... that I do not have a giant hysterically-laughing head to share with you!

Meanwhile, back to reality ... this was shared elsewhere by a male BAC ...

1 John 2:29 in these translations reads:

    'If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.' (ESV);
    'If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.' (NIV);
    'If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him' (NASB);
'Since we know that Christ is righteous, we also know that all who do what is right are God’s children' (NLT).
'If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who does right has been born of him' (NRSV).

The Greek is in the present (continuous action) tense for the participle 'doing'.
So the meaning is that everyone who continues to do righteousness (i.e. righteous actions) 'has been born' (perfect tense).
The perfect tense 'represents a present state resulting from a past action' (John Wenham).

So the meaning of 1 John 2:29 is that Jesus is righteous and those who have been born of God will continue
to do righteousness. Thus, a born again person has the ability - given by God - to continue to live righteously.

I won't bore you with all of what I replied to him, but the short of it was, after thanking him ...
Any BAC who has a Bible, and the indwelling Holy Spirit, should have NO need of any Greek.
And all of the reasons why! ... Aaaw, gee, that's not very exciting!

So then you deny the clear teaching of Scripture?

Well, that isn't very exciting to me - but it just might be to you someday.
