    Our ‘illustrious’ well-meaning board member is a veritable encyclopedia of inane illustrations by which he unceasingly attempts to prove Scripture wrong. I believe this latest analogy is his greatest work – a sign and wonder of rare magnitude. Future illustrations will be hard pressed to outshine this one.

    Example # 6:

    “Why some men are wise and choose for God, while others are foolish and choose against God cannot be answered. But just because we cannot answer why one man chooses for God while another chooses against God does not prove Calvinism is true whatsoever. It is a false form of argument.

    It is like asking why one person likes mustard on a hot dog, while another person likes ketchup on a hot dog. We cannot say why, we can only observe that these are the facts. It is all a matter of choice. “

    Refutation of First Paragraph:

    Christ clearly states why men choose Him: He chose them first.

    “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you….” (John 15:16)

    One has only to examine the nature of Christ’s call to His Disciples. He called them out specifically. They responded immediately in compliance. God’s grace worked effectually and irresistibly on their wills, causing them to leave their livelihoods and families for a higher calling in Christ Jesus. All Christians are called specifically and effectually by God. All Christians were chosen by the Father in eternity because He was here first.

    The calling of Judas Iscariot was not a mistake. He was predestined to betray Jesus, resulting in the Lord’s capture and execution. Judas Iscariot is a type of the Antichrist…….a professed follower of Jesus wielding Apostolic authority, yet, in reality, a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a denier of the faith, an enemy of Christ and His people.

    Can the reader think of a current day professed Christian who claims Apostolic descent from Peter and yet denies Christ in word and deed?

    Why do men love the Lord? We love Him because He loved us first.

    “We love him, because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)

    Why do some men have faith? According to the board member, he created it by his own ‘free’ will. He was the author of his faith. Yet Scripture contradicts such ravings. Jesus is the author of saving faith given freely to the Elect. Faith is the creation of the Lord God Almighty. It is His gift to those He chose…..not our gift to Him.

    “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith….” (Hebrews 12:2)

    Refutation of Second Paragraph:

    This one is easy.

    All true Christians eat beef hot dogs only.

    They saturate it with chili, cheese and onions.

    Why the well-meaning board member uses ketchup, I doubt anyone can say.

    Just because God calls you does not mean you will answer. God did not cause Judas to betray Jesus, God never tempts any man to sin (James 1:13). But Jesus did know from the beginning that Judas would betray him (Jhn 6:64), this is foreknowledge of who will believe and who will not. We are elect according to the foreknowledge of the Father (1 Pet 1:2).

    God calls many persons who refuse to come;

    Pro 1:24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

    Mat 22:3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.

    I could show many more examples, but if you will not listen to this scripture, you will not listen if I showed you dozens of scriptures. Just because God calls a man does not guarantee he will listen and come to God.

    Not sure what you are attempting to say here.

    I agree, we love Jesus because he first loved us. But some men choose not to love Jesus, even though he loved them.

    Paul asked how can a man believe in him of whom they have not heard? If not for the word of God, no man would know who the true God is or that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died for our sins and rose again. Jesus is the Word of God, so yes, he is the author and finisher of our faith. Without him, we could not believe. You cannot believe what you do not know.

    That said, all men have the innate ability to believe, this is a common grace given to all men by God. It is like many other abilities God has given us, as the ability to reason, or the ability to speak and understand language. I have the ability to reason, but it is nothing for me to boast of, it is a gift from God. So is the ability to believe.

    I doubt your argument is as convincing as you imagine.

    By the way, I like mustard on a hot dog, I am from the South originally. :thumbsup:

    you deny original sin, and us being ruined by the Fall, correct?

    That we are not born sinners, but become such when we chose too, correct?

    That God waits to see if we will accept jesus, as he cannot foresee us doing that until we actuall do that act, right?

    That God has to wait to see if we allow him to save us by making right decisions, correct?

    You think that there were people made right before God by obeying His OT Law, correct?

    You see calvinism as being bad, but could that be based yupon a very faulty theological base for yourself?
