When Driving a Car Becomes A Sin....

...I wanted to have a discussion with my brothers and sisters on the board as to whether you see "texting" while driving, and "talking" on a cell phone a sin?

I believe it is for several reasons....
1) It is deliberately ignoring and breaking the laws of the road!
2) It puts you and those in your car in danger. A DOT report in 2010 shows that talking and texting while driving puts you and those in your car at 23 times more risk, as this takes approximately 4 seconds off your reaction time in case of an unexpected road event!
3) Finally, in 2010 - 3,092 people were killed in talking/texting accidents, and another 416,000 were injured.

With that in mind, do you agree that not to give 100% of your attention when driving your car, could be seen as a sin against not only you [the Temple of God], but those around you [both in your car or in other cars or on the walkways].

I say that to misuse the automobile [and by misuse, I am talking about ignoring the rules and laws of the road, as well as road courtesy, moves from breaking laws, to sin for those who are Christians! After all, Jesus did tell HIs followers to render unto Caesar that which is Caesars, and that would pertain to obeying laws as much as paying taxes, wouldn't it???

PS - I hope the moderators do not see this post in this section as a violation of placement, as I seriously see this as a relevant Baptist Discussion. It has been said tnat texting and talking while driving has gradually become a killing epidemic her in the US, and I wondered what role the believer has in doing their part to make sure they in fact do not kill or injure someone for breaking these laws!

 

Agreed!

Speeding as much as much as DUI. running stop sighs and lights and road rage! But, you would be surprised at the people who do not compare the texting and talking to those infractions! And this inculdes believers I've talked to!

In my early days, I would take calls while driving, but after a near accident, I learned to let the caller leave a message, or to get off the road, park and talk. I don't text, as I my fat little fingers are to uncoordinated to do this! :laugh:
