OK so I am concerned about my community & ive complained about nobody (IE Churches) having any outreach.

So at services yesterday, an Elder indicated he wanted to discuss community outreach & he had a room reserved & it would only take a few minutes. So I go to this meeting & 6 people show up & the Elder expresses surprise cause he thought it would be a no show or only one or two bodies would show.

That alone concerned me as well as some negative comments that nothing will ever get off the ground.

I reminded these people that this was part of The Great Commission...to do local work as well as sending missionaries..... but really it was a "I really dont want to be bothered" kinda meeting. What is going on in our churches when we dont do any outreach? Frankly, I dont want to be part of any place that only cares about their own wants & needs.....thats not Christ!

Having a building in which weekly services open to the public are held in which Christ is taught is outreach. To me the most important thing is the doctrine being taught, and the Spirit will move the individual members to exercise their gifts for the edification of the church.

Really?? Who is going to equip them? Who is going to help give them direction? Who is going to provide support, both spiritual and financial? If the church isn't providing some or all of this, and training people in outreach, those efforts are doomed to fail.

"If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?" (Matthew 16:24-26)

This thread isn't about the KJV Bible. This thread is about community and missions outreach. If you can't discuss that, don't post. Thank you.

Preach the scriptures to the community.

Distribute Holy Bibles and teach the scriptures to the community.

Teach the community the difference between Holy Bibles and Corrupt Bibles.

Teach the community to observe the scriptures.

    Got a better idea ?

The Great Commission says "Go" (well the aorist means "as you are going") and denotes the idea of not opening a door and expecting people to come in. It means we go out. Coupled with the charge from Christ as His ascension, we are to "Go!" locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally to spread the Gospel.

I have never understood a church that doesn't Go as part of their mission.

    Frankly, a church that doesn't go isn't a church. It's a country club.

When staff members lead the charge to sit, soak, and sour it is often due to missional complacency or that they are overwhelmed with other work. The staff should be leading the way by developing programming or empowering lay leaders to lead missions work. Missions work from local to global is a fundamental function of the local church. Without missions we fail to see new life breathed into our congregations. Without missions we just become a bunch of religious relics sitting quietly in our club learning polite lessons about a Jesus who isn't worth much to the world.

    That's my honest opinion. :)

I did suggest that & sited a few ways to do it .... via streaming video, via walking the streets & using the towns gazebo, visits to shut ins & sending out transportation to people who have none or cant drive.

Distribution is one thing, but getting them to read it is quite another.....Im wondering how many in the pews have ever read the whole bible?

Most of the community is catholic.
Most of the community is unsaved.

So Id rather lead by setting an example. Do chores for those who struggle with yard work & do it cheerfully & let them see that. Make friends with the community.....let them know we are even there & that we love them. Show them how much love we have for them.....make them want to take an interest.

Id also like to find a way to integrate with my Russian Church friends......maybe with a choir recital around the Holidays (haven't worked that out yet).

What you are saying is only half the picture. Most churches are spreading the gospel and scripture already and many do have ways of trying to reach the community at large.
However some don't do this enough or at all outside of their own congregation.

But as I said, that is only half the picture. There are other needs that need to be filled, brought up by other users.

As far as the KJO issue itself is concerned, this isn't the thread for that, so I won't comment on it.

Listen, Ive harped on this for a while. So much so, I was becoming depressed & resentful about it. I personally believe that most people are content with a lazy church service & they are afraid to exert themselves & go out & touch the flesh of God & that would mean touching the flesh of one another to understand what God is calling us to. For example, we read in (John 20:27) how the apostle Thomas symbolizes our temptation towards heady faith, so Jesus asks him to touch the wounds.....and thats what we are afraid to do.

If this church does indeed pull it together (and I will help) then it will have been a prayer of mine answered. Its Gods world.....lets see how it pans out.

We have only really one church doing this right now & thats the United Methodists situated in the center of town. They now have a number of different services...Saturday evening & a few on Sunday--so they are emulating the RCC church down the road. They have many facilities & already do a lot with the community. My wife can go there for Pilaties & yoga.....and I can go for martial arts training, basketball games, scouts....blah blah blah. It is an entrainment center for all ages.

But see Im not shooting for that. Im trying to do something for the community so they know we exist . And in doing so, hopefully spread the gospel. But this meeting was so anemic that it appeared they were just going through the motions so they could say they did. I really tried to turn that around yesterday, so only time will tell.

No, they aren't doomed to fail. Stop looking at God's heritage as a human resources pool. See them as sheep needing a shepherd. Feed God's sheep, and they will come.
