Anybody seen this movie? It's about an alcoholic baseball all star that gets suspended and his agent sends him back to his home town as a publicity stunt to rehabilitate him in the press. Turns out he has to join a 12 step program as part of his PR turnaround. This turns out to be Saddleback's Celebrate Recovery program.

If you've seen the movie, what did you think?

I read the book in two sittings and I'd give it a 3 out of 4 stars. The book was overtly graphic on the life and struggles of an alcoholic. Kind of wondering if the movie was the same. The book almost seemed to be a thinly veiled pitch for Celebrate Recovery.

It probably was. As an addictions counselor, I don't see a thing in the world wrong with that.

It's the same opinion I have of AA, GA, NA, CA, OA, SA, etc.

If it gets you clean, sober, abstinent, etc., go for it. Just don't forget that the founders of AA, Bill W. and Dr. Bob, were Christian men who designed a program intended to lead addicts/alcoholics/compulsives to Christ without beating them over the head with the Bible, and every 12-step program founded since is building on that base, though even AA is now trying to step away from Christianity and the rest thought they were already removed from it.

CR unequivocally puts Christ back in recovery.

Celebrate Recovery is as fine a substance abuse recovery program as I know of today.

I saw it when I was at the Celebrate Recovery Summit last year at Saddleback church. There were more than 80 churches represented and 19 countries. They showed the movie then long before it was released and had the actors there where you could meet them.

    The movie is excellent.

Saw the movie last night. Very intense. Finally, a Christian themed movie with good actors, good photography, good production values, and real character portrayals, not clichéd characters or wooden people. Some plot points were glossed over or hinted at but it did not detract much from the story. Highly recommended.

Be warned there are adult addiction themes and alcohol abuse is fully shown. Though there are scenes involving youth baseball teams this is not a kid's film.
