    http://www.ksla.com/story/23679489/walmart-shelves-in-springhill-mansfield-cleared-in-ebt-glitch

...Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd confirms they were called in to help the employees at Walmart because there were so many people clearing off the shelves. He says Walmart was so packed, "It was worse than any black Friday" that he's ever seen.

Lynd explained the cards weren't showing limits and they called corporate Walmart, whose spokesman said to let the people use the cards anyway. From 7 to 9 p.m., people were loading up their carts, but when the cards began showing limits again around 9, one woman was detained because she rang up a bill of $700.00 and only had .49 on her card. She was held by police until corporate Walmart said they wouldn't press charges if she left the food.

Lynd says at 9 p.m., when the cards came back online and it was announced over the loud speaker, people just left their carts full of food in the aisles and left.

"Just about everything is gone, I've never seen it in that condition," said Mansfield Walmart customer Anthony Fuller.

Walmart employees could still be seen putting food from the carts away as late as Sunday afternoon. "I was just thinking, I'm so glad my mom doesn't work here [Walmart] anymore, that's the only thing I could think about, those employees working, that would have to restock all that stuff," said O.J Evans who took cell phone video of the overflowing shopping carts at the Mansfield Walmart....

How bad would Leftistan be whining if Wal-Mart had simply refused all the cards until the system came up.

Was cutting firewood with my Dad today and we were talking about my cousin who just lost her husband to a heart attack at age 47, he left 5 children behind. He said it reminded him of his mother losing his dad (he was hit and killed by a bus while walking to work along the highway when it was foggy) and there was eight of them (kids).

Dad was only four years old at the time so he doesn't remember much about his father. He said his mother had no choice but to go on relief, this was 1940. This I knew and heard it many times before. But he said something new this time that I never knew. He said twice a month his aunt would stop in and give his mother 20 dollars out of her paycheck to help them out. Here's the shocker, he said his mom would always report the 20 bucks to the relief agency.

She was a wonderful Christian woman, as far back as I can remember visiting her she was confined to a wheel chair, sugar diabetes slowly took her feet and then her legs. But you know what I remember the most about her? She always had her bible on her lap or close by, and she was always humming or singing hymns.

It is too bad so many game the system. It's supposed to help people just like this woman and I can't imagine someone like her would pull something like this.

There are true moochers out there and we should deal with it.

Amen! What is sad is that the republicans working with Bill Clinton cleaned up the system quite well as compared to what it was, and Obama cancelled it all. Hopefully a Republican will win the White House and restore the former gains that were made.

She wouldn't. That's the reason I shared the story, most folks back then didn't desire to be on relief, they wanted to rise up out of it. It's the way they were taught from the cradle, now they are taught by the democrats it is better to receive than to give back to society.

Another unintended consequence of the House Republicans obstructive tactics shutting down the government.

Way to take an OP and hijack it with a biased political spin. This thread has nothing to do with what you are talking about. It's about people's response to a situation, not about the cause.

Out of curiosity, I am interested of the repercussions that will happen down line to those who successfully were able to purchase the excess of goods & got away with it. Do you think the government will catch up to them and halt future benefits for their "theft" ..... I certainly hope so!

Desperate people take desperate steps, often misguided steps.

The desperate reality will hit these people next month when the money they would have received is subtracted from the balance owed on the card and all they have to eat will be the cupcakes and chips that they stocked up on.

Except this was NOT a desperate situation.

A desperation situation would be when the hurricane hit New Orleans - and people needed food - (not want items such as big screen TV's)

I think it was Ann who said - IF it were me, I would take the food I needed - but leave an IOU until I could pay.

I want to help the needy - but not the greedy

Wouldn't 99% of these card holders know the limit they have each month? Doesn't it stay pretty consistent unless major life changes happen?? Surely they are not in the dark as to what their limits are before they get to the cash register.

I think you are 100% correct, I would assume any overages will be taken off future allowances. These people didn't think that one through....

The left is outwardly hostile to Wal-Mart. I wouldn't be surprised to see them pick up the entire tab, and drop charges, in order to get good press (that they will NEVER receive).
